Cumberland Gap Volunteer Fire Department

Cumberland Gap Volunteer Fire Department CGVFD protects the Tennessee towns of Cumberland Gap and Tiprell. Our volunteers are medical and veterinary students at Lincoln Memorial University.

CGVFD is a volunteer fire department that is staffed and ran by LMU Medical, Veterinarian, graduate, and undergraduate students. The department protects the Town of Cumberland Gap and Tiprell, TN. We provide mutual aide to Cumberland Gap Tunnel Authority, Cumberland Gap National Park, and a host of area departments. Our apparatus include an engine, tanker, and rescue truck.

On January 7th at approximately 1:00pm, CGVFD responded in the Fulton Rd area as mutual aid to Harrogate Fire Department as well as Middlesboro and TNT Fire Departments. Upon arrival, smoke was exiting a window and the fire was determined to be coming from the attic of the single family home. The fire was extinguished at approximately 6:00pm, and the family pets were rescued out of the home.

This past weekend, three of our department members attended a live burn training along side members of TNT and North Tazewell fire departments. They were able to gain valuable hands-on experience in a controlled environment to enhance operational readiness and strengthen real world response capabilities. 🚨
