This evening, the Cumberland Fire Department conducted wilderness rescue training at Twin Brooks. There were 2 separate scenarios; the first being a walker who tripped and fell with a head and leg injury, and the second being a patient who sustained injuries after falling off a bridge.

In each scenario, members had to locate the patient using mapping information from the Cumberland County Regional Communication Center - Maine, assess, treat, package, and extricate the patient from the woods to definitive care.

We are proud to train on topics like this so that citizens and visitors of Cumberland can enjoy all the recreational opportunities of our town safely!

This evening, the Cumberland Fire Department conducted a training on off road emergencies. In Cumberland we are lucky to have lots of outdoor recreation opportunities, and we train to respond to emergencies in these situations.

Tonight’s training scenario was a simulated head on snowmobile crash with multiple patients. Crews had to locate the incident on a trail in town, triage and treat patients, and then remove them from the woods to awaiting ambulances utilizing the department’s rescue snowmobile.

Early this morning at approximately 0332 hours, Cumberland Tower 107, Ambulance 104 and Engine 102 were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Forest Avenue in the Town of Windham.

Cumberland Car 2 was the first arriving unit and did a size up and found a fire in the walls surrounding the chimney and struck the all hands. Tower 107 arrived on scene and took the driveway and stretched an 1 3/4 attack line and used approximately 150 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

Windham Squad 27 supplied Tower 107 with a feeder line to establish water supply. Crews spent a little over an hour overhauling the fire and ensuring complete extinguishment. This incident is another strong case for the benefits of mutual aid.
