Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day to honor freedom, resilience, and the enduring struggle to fulfill our nation's promise of liberty and justice for all.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and that our work to build a more equitable society continues. As Democrats, we honor the generations of Black Americans whose courage, leadership, and contributions have shaped our nation while recommitting ourselves to protecting civil rights, defending our democracy, expanding opportunity, and ensuring justice for all.

The Heart of LA Democratic Club proudly celebrates Juneteenth and stands with those working to build a future where every person can thrive with dignity, equality, and freedom.

Happy Juneteenth!
