To look at any thing, if you would know that thing, you must look at it long: to look at this green and say “I have seen spring in these woods,” will not do— you must be the thing you see: you must be the dark snakes of stems and ferny plumes of leaves, you must enter in to the small silences between the leaves, you must take your time and touch the very peace they issue from.

Otala lactea = Milk Snail! 🐌 This beautifully designed snail is invasive and comes from Europe and North Africa. Here they were munching on some invasive wild radishes which also come from Europe. Hello Desert Cottontail Rabbit! Usually they’ll freeze for a few seconds before scrunching down to blend into their surroundings then they’ll bolt out of sight and into the safety of the coastal sage scrub plants here; not today. 😊 What are some of your wildlife neighbors?
