Reminder today is the Rodeo at the Agriculture show grounds in Culpeper.

Expect large traffic backups on route 29. Va State Police is handling that in coming and out going.

We will be in the Rodeo grounds, we have a large group working this event, we will have a large tent on the hillside for staging. Our staff will be throughout the event area and parking lots if you need anything!

Please hydrate all day (with water) its gonna be hot! Have a great time and be safe!

Animal Control and Animal Shelter

Morning all I wanted to clarify a few things for everyone especially after last nights Board of Supervisors Meeting.

If you were there you obviously saw the many speakers but as always the parking lot meetings after the meeting is where most of the questions and information exchanges. I was asked by numerous folks what my role is when it comes to Animal Control and the Animal Shelter.

The short answer is I have no role, the two services fall solely under the County Administrator. Therefore any questions, concerns, policy issues, personnel issues should be addressed to him.

I agree that Animal Control typically falls under law enforcement (Sheriff or Police) in all of our surrounding counties. I have not done much research on the animal shelters themselves and who they fall under but from what I can find, they usually stay under county admin control.

My office gets many animal complaints and I pass them on to the county Animal Control officers. If they come across a case that requires a larger investigation, they can request help from our office and we will step in. The county administration can also ask for us to investigate personnel issues, misconduct, or larger scale animal cases.

I try to answer as many of the tags on social media as I can, but I felt like this might be the easier route to let you all know where we stand currently.

As was stated in the meeting last night by one of the supervisors, it appears there is work to be done.

I can see the passion in the community and the outcry for change. Again, I do not know all of the facts so I won’t speak on any of that, but I will tell you that we will help if we can.

I will offer our help on all the social media platforms to try and get a larger reach with posting of the animals for adoption to begin with. As you all know both this page and our Sheriff’s office page hits probably close to 1 million people a week. Hopefully we can get a partnership going and leverage that reach.

As always my office is here to help, and I am looking forward to positive input from you all. I tell my staff all the time “If you come to me with a problem, bring me a solution too!”

I have read most of the comments on social media so please there is no need to repost those here. Come up with concerns and set a true point of contact to present the ideas and solutions to the County Administrator or your Board representative.

Three events full of food and community partners!

Yesterday was long, hot, and full of BBQ, Burgers, Crabs and tons of Cpep people!

Car show at Belmont Farm Distillery was packed with folks from all over, great food, and you could sip on a little something in the distillery with Cheryl and the crew. This place is near and dear to me, the Millers are my neighbors!

Burgers and Badges at 309 had a good turnout, both CCSO and CPD were there to raise money for SAFE.

Young Professionals fundraiser was packed. Capt, Corbin’s seafood was on the crab cooking detail with his crew. They knocked it out of the park of course, the food was amazing. Mountain Run Winery is such a perfect spot to host this great event.

Locally we have so much going on, I try to get to as many events as humanly possible to support our amazing community. I truly believe that is why the Sheriff’s Office is supported by so many organizations, Culpeper Supports Culpeper for sure!

… I was given this challenge coin by who I believe was an Army veteran (by his hat) .. stuck his hand out to shake my hand with it in his hand and thanked me for my service as he walked away. Small things sometimes have the most meaning.

Monday is coming yall!

Mock interviews CCHS

One of the best things we do each year is help with the mock job interviews at each high school. Yesterday Chief Deputy McKnight , Dep. Perez and myself were assessors for the Culpeper High kids.

Each year we get to meet so many of the young future stars of our area as they head to college or the workplace in a few months.
