When a child can’t safely live with their parents, Virginia works to keep them connected to people they already know and trust. This is called kinship care!

Kinship caregivers can provide safety, stability and familiar connections while a child’s family works toward reunification or another permanent plan. Keeping children connected to family can also help them maintain important relationships, traditions and a sense of belonging.

This Kinship Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the caregivers who step up to provide care, connection and support when children need it most.

Just like our foster parents who have to attend training our social workers do as well. Today our family resource coordinators around the Region were able to attend a Resource Family Forum event online and speak about collaboration with recruitment, training, support, and resources. 😎

It was a great day at the Back to School Bash over the weekend at Culpeper High School! We had fun fostering greater connections with the community and handing out different items.

A huge shout out to Culpeper County Public Schools and all the amazing partners who made this event possible. It is always awesome to see our community come together for events!

✏️Starting a new school year can be both exciting and overwhelming. Now is the time to start preparing your child for the school year, mentally and emotionally. 💭Identifying potential challenges early on and having a plan in place is important. Provide emotional support by ensuring your child or youth feels safe and understood at home and in school. Emotional permanency is as important as physical permanency. 💜
