Meet Elaina Quijada, our Disaster Recovery and Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Program Manager! Since joining Vecinos in January 2025, Elaina has been dedicated to helping patients access critical resources during times of hardship and crisis!

What she loves most about her role? Supporting patients as they navigate challenges and helping them recognize their own strength and resilience along the way. 💙

A fun fact about Elaina: she’s a big baseball fan! ⚾

When she’s not working, you can probably find her enjoying a good love story - her current favorite is Bridgerton. 📚💕🎬

🌱This spring, Physical Therapy students from Western Carolina University spent time with local farmworkers, listening to their experiences and gaining firsthand insight into the physical demands of agricultural work. Through meaningful conversations, students connected their education to real-world challenges while sharing strategies for injury prevention and body mechanics.

Thank you to the farmworkers who shared their knowledge and experiences with us. Together, we continue learning from the hands that help feed our communities. 💚 Vecinos

🌟 Meet the Staff: Sarai Martinez-Luna 🌟

Sarai is a Community Health Worker II and our current MedServe Fellow. Since joining Vecinos in 2024, she has helped support agricultural workers and Latino communities across Western North Carolina while witnessing the organization’s exciting growth.

💙 What she loves most: Being part of a team that serves historically underserved communities and helps connect people with the care they need.

✨ Fun Fact: Sarai has an older sister who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and people often say they look like twins!

📺 Current obsession: Águila Roja, a Spanish telenovela.
