Pontiac Fire Department Announces the Hiring of Full-Time Firefighter Jordan Spangler

The Pontiac Fire Department is proud to announce that Jordan Spangler has been hired as a Full-Time Firefighter as of May 1, 2026.

Jordan has served our department as a Part-Time Firefighter since September 2020, demonstrating dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the community. During his time with the department as a Part-Time Firefighter, he has been heavily involved with the Pontiac Project Fire Buddies Chapter. In addition to his service with Pontiac, Jordan also serves as a Captain with the Cullom Fire Protection District and is a member of the executive board for MABAS 23 and the Livingston County Mutual Aid Association, further reflecting his leadership and passion for the fire service.

During his time as a part-time member, Jordan has already completed the majority of the Probationary Firefighter internal training passport. As he begins his full-time role, he will continue his development by attending three hands-on external firefighting classes during his probationary period, with future plans to attend Paramedic School.

Please join us in congratulating Probationary Firefighter Spangler on this well-earned achievement. We look forward to his continued growth and service. We wish him a safe, healthy, and successful career with the Pontiac Fire Department.

At approximately 1652 hours, we were dispatched to respond to a field fire posing an exposure risk to nearby structures. The incident was upgraded to Box 300, and we extend our gratitude to the local farmer for providing a tractor/tillage machine which significantly aided in preventing the fire's spread. Appreciation is also extended to all responding departments for their exemplary teamwork and to Vcom for their exceptional dispatching services.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 22, 2026

Structure Fire Response at 1201 S. Old Airport Rd., Lot #1

At approximately 11:40 a.m. today, the Pontiac Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1201 S. Old Airport Rd., Lot #1.

While en route, the Pontiac Police Department advised through V-COM Dispatch that all residents had safely exited the structure. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a working fire with thick, pressurized smoke pushing from the building.
Pontiac Fire Department personnel initiated fire suppression operations and vertical ventilation tactics while securing a positive water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. Additional responding Pontiac fire companies, along with Auto Aid fire departments, conducted primary and secondary searches of the structure.

During the incident, Pontiac Fire Department ambulance companies also responded to additional medical calls within the City of Pontiac, ensuring continued emergency service coverage. Ambulance personnel also provided on-scene rehabilitation for firefighters to ensure their safety after operating under high heat conditions.
The fire was subsequently brought under control.

The Pontiac Fire Investigation Unit was requested to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At the time of this release, the investigation remains ongoing, and no injuries have been reported.

Pontiac Fire Command coordinated with the American Red Cross to assist displaced residents.
Fire Chief Jacob Campbell extends his appreciation to the Auto Aid Fire Departments from Cullom, Fairbury, and Saunemin for their assistance with fire suppression efforts. He also acknowledges the operational support provided by the Pontiac Police Department, Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, V-COM Dispatch Center, ComEd, and Nicor Gas Company.

This is what’s left behind at the station when a fire call comes in. Work boots are from leaving their job; lounge shoes are from leaving their family at home. The people whose shoes are left behind aren’t just firefighters; they are husbands, wives, dads, moms, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors. The people who drop everything when the pager goes off are the people who sacrifice their family time, birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, sleep, and many other hours to be there for complete strangers when they need us most. In the fire service, our number one goal is life safety, which includes our lives too. At the end of the call, these shoes need to be filled again. Help us help you by having and practicing your emergency evacuation plan, slowing down and paying attention when going through accident scenes, testing your smoke alarms, and following fire prevention tips. With your help, we can fill these shoes at the end of every call.
