IMPORTANT information!!!!!

Medicaid has recently been audited and because of that audit they have a new policy that they will NOT renew Medicaid for any child who is not in an approved/compliant Foster home. This goes for kinship guardianship homes as well.

How does this affect you?

As you know, there are certain things that we have to keep updated in the system . Some examples are your family medicals, copies of drivers licenses, copies of auto insurance, copies of pet vaccines, etc..

The director will not sign off on your yearly home renewal until everything is in your file, and when your car insurance is due, or your license expires, that is flagged in the system. Without that signature, your home is technically not an approved / compliant home.

When you are asked to provide something for your file, please do it ASAP. There are cases where DHR has asked for a copy of auto insurance or drivers licenses or medicals and they are not getting sent in.

With this new Medicaid policy, Medicaid is freezing Children's insurance until everything is signed off on. This means if DHR has asked for a copy of your car insurance and you have not sent it, then they have not signed off on your approval, and when your child has to go to the doctor, they may not have coverage at that time. This also means that you’re home is not in compliance. Which also means that DHR may have to start removing children from noncompliant homes and placing them elsewhere.

Something as simple as not sending in a copy of requested paperwork can turn into a huge problem not only for you but also for the children. If you have anything outstanding, please get it to DHR ASAP and please understand the importance of submitting paperwork and documents in a timely manner.

Thank you for all that you do for these children! We all understand how busy life is, especially when you were bringing extra people into your already busy schedule, but this must be a priority.

🍔Lunch is not provided on Thursday, so be sure to grab a bite online way down.

***CONFERENCE UPDATE*****

What an amazing group of foster, adoptive and kinship families we have!!!! We have had to close registration for the conference a few days early due to reaching capacity with our rooms. We can accomadate commuters who want to travel in for the day and we do have a few rooms that have only bunkbeds in them. If you have not registered and want to attend. Please contact

We had to temporarily close registration because we had all rooms we were allocated filled. We worked today with Shocco and have received access to more rooms. We will open registration again tomorrow 4/23/26 by noon.

If you will notice CPR and Water safety must be pre registered. Once you register for the conference we will send out the registration link for those classes. CPR is limited to 25 per class, water safety does not have a class size limitation but you must still pre-register so that Warrior CPR can request payment from your county.

🎓🎓Scholarship selections have been completed! We had over 50 amazing applicants this year and the choices were very difficult! We were able to award 19 students from all across the state with scholarships thanks to funds and grants, but there are many more who we’d love to get a scholarship to! Registration is now open for the 2026 AFAPA conference at Shocco Springs in Talladega, Al, May 7-9, 2026.
The conference is FREE to attend, but we do ask that if you cannot attend after you have signed up, that you please let us know so that we aren’t charged not charged for unused rooms. We are looking forward to the best conference yet! Ohana - No one left behind🌸

Official registration for our annual conference at Shocco Springs. The conference starts on May 7th at 12:00 pm and ends on May 9th at 11:00 am. You will receive 15 training hours if you attend all sessions. Lunch is NOT provided on Thursday, so please make arrangements for a meal before you arrive....
