π Celebrating 15 incredible years of the Cudahy SMART team! π
While the program has been through many changes some things have stayed constant. Students who participate in this program learn about the biochemistry of a protein they select. In the past few years, the team has learned about the COVID antibody protein, the opioid receptor and how NARCAN helps reverse overdoses, chronic wasting disease causing prions, and, this year, about the HIV-CD4 binding proteins. They learn how the protein is structured and functions by reading peer reviewed scientific articles, learning how to interpret scientific text and data. Once this portion is completed, students use a program to 3D model their protein, which is then printed by 3D Molecular Designs. 𧬠They also conduct other research, learning about topics that connect to the main protein. The final portion of the program requires students to design a scientific poster. Each year the poster varies a little in structure and appearance, but it always details a story about the protein.
We are so proud of the hard work and research these students put in. Please enjoy this year's presentation! πβ¨
