💜 June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 💜
Every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and peace of mind. Yet, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 1 in 6 older adults experience some form of abuse each year.
Abuse—whether emotional, financial, or physical—takes a massive toll on an elder's mental health, leading to severe anxiety, depression, and isolation. Protecting their wellbeing is a responsibility we all share.
How you can help:
⁜ Check in often: Isolation increases vulnerability. Regular visits and calls matter.
⁜ Know the signs: Sudden behavioral changes, unexplained financial strain, or withdrawal can be red flags.
⁜ Speak up: If you suspect mistreatment, report it.
Let’s safeguard the dignity and mental health of the seniors who built our communities.
