Mia and Julie represented SCVN at the McHenry County TRIAD picnic in McHenry yesterday. About 70 seniors came out to enjoy the day, get public safety tips from local law enforcement, have lunch, and hear some great tunes by DJ Kathy.

💜 June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 💜

Every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and peace of mind. Yet, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 1 in 6 older adults experience some form of abuse each year.

Abuse—whether emotional, financial, or physical—takes a massive toll on an elder's mental health, leading to severe anxiety, depression, and isolation. Protecting their wellbeing is a responsibility we all share.

How you can help:

⁜ Check in often: Isolation increases vulnerability. Regular visits and calls matter.
⁜ Know the signs: Sudden behavioral changes, unexplained financial strain, or withdrawal can be red flags.
⁜ Speak up: If you suspect mistreatment, report it.

Let’s safeguard the dignity and mental health of the seniors who built our communities.

⁜ Support & Tools: National Center on Elder Abuse (ncea.acl.gov)
