A PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) TORNADO WATCH has been issued until 11pm tonight for all of West Tennessee. Storms will begin to fire up over the next couple hours in our area. Scattered Supercells are expected and a tornado could develop with any supercell that goes up as well as up to baseball size hail. As the evening goes on, the tornado threat will decrease but the storms will become more widespread and still be intense with strong winds highly likely. PLEASE stay weather aware tonight, this is a very dangerous situation tonight!

πŸ”₯FIRE DANGER ON THE RISEπŸ”₯

Starting this Sunday through next Monday, we ask you to postpone outdoor burning due to extremely dry conditions. We are in a level 3 drought, folks, and that is not changing anytime soon.

Understanding How Weather Factors Impact Fire Safety:
Low Relative Humidity: When the air is dry, it pulls moisture out of vegetation. Dry leaves, twigs, and grass become "fine fuels" that ignite almost instantly with a single spark.

Drought Conditions: Prolonged dry spells leave larger fuels, like logs and deep brush, dangerously dry. In a drought, fires burn deeper into the ground and are much harder for firefighters to fully extinguish.

High Wind Speeds: Wind acts as a fan, providing oxygen to the fire and pushing flames into new fuel sources. Winds can also carry embers miles away, starting "spot fires" far from the original burn site.

Crucial Safety Rule:
Never leave an outdoor fire unattended. Even a small, manageable fire can become an uncontrollable wildfire in minutes if the wind shifts or humidity drops.

Think fast: What's one of the best pieces of firefighting and lifesaving equipment?
Answer: A closed door.

A closed door can hinder flames and smoke from spreading to other rooms and can help deprive a fire of the oxygen it needs to grow, limiting the structural damage a fire can cause and, most importantly, saving lives. In fact, closing doors to quarantine a fire is an age-old technique used by firefighters that homeowners should always keep in mind.

Remember:

-Close the bedroom door when sleeping, if possible.
-Close doors behind you when escaping a room or building that's on fire.
-Keep fire doors closed. Never wedge, disable or prop open fire doors in any building.
