The Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism (GOSV) is a unit of the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives. Through the use of federal dollars, the office currently funds 17 AmeriCorps*State programs to support disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families in Maryland. The Office on Service and Volunteer

ism was founded in 1993; and the office supports over 1,000 AmeriCorps members each year through its grant-making program. In addition, the GOSV advocates for effective volunteer program management and recognizes volunteer service across the state on behalf of the Governor of Maryland. Each year, over 200,000 Maryland volunteers are recognized by the Governor’s Office through activities and services provided by the GOSV.

AmeriCorps Project Change Montgomery AmeriCorps members serve in Montgomery County, Maryland. CHANGE stands for “Collaboratively Helping America’s Next Generation Emerge." Members enable organizations to expand offerings, improve delivery of resources and reach a larger segment of the population.

Project Change members improve student academic engagement; including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) instruction by conducting school, after-school programs of study, homework support and personal development with economically-disadvantaged K-12 students.

Latin American Youth Center AmeriCorps members help to improve the academic achievement of students attending Buck Lodge Middle School and William Wirt Middle School in Langley Park and Riverdale and High Point and Northwestern High Schools; all in Prince George's County, Maryland.

AmeriCorps members at the Latin American Youth Center provide academic services to 6th through 12th grade students through in-school, after-school and summer programs. These dedicated AmeriCorps members also engage volunteers in community service projects.

A STAR! in Western Maryland is based at Frostburg State University and recruits first-year college students and members of the community as AmeriCorps members. A STAR! members serving with A STAR! engage disadvantaged K-12 youth through educational activities.

A STAR! members also provide service opportunities for veterans, outreach services to low-income Marylanders, homeless Marylanders and underserved individuals in the four westernmost counties in Maryland. A Star! members also engage volunteers in support of these activities.

The Maryland Conservation Corps (MCC) is an AmeriCorps program that engages young adults in natural resource management and park conservation projects. The program provides members with opportunities to preserve, protect, enhance and restore Maryland's natural resources.

Managed by the Maryland Park Service since 1984, MCC provides members with opportunities for skill development and personal growth through a supportive, team-based environment, emphasizing the satisfaction of completing projects that benefit Maryland’s natural resources.

Under the supervision of experienced Maryland Department of Natural Resources staff, MCC members work in crews of 5-7 members. From State parks and forests, to the Chesapeake Bay, MCC members are engaged in projects in Maryland's most beautiful places.

AmeriCorps program Volunteer Maryland builds stronger, healthier communities by developing volunteer programs with nonprofits, governments and schools. The vision is that all Marylanders will participate in and value service to enrich and empower community, society and self.

Volunteer Maryland Coordinators, bridge the gap between communities facing critical needs and citizens who want to volunteer to support initiatives that mitigate problems. Since 1992, Volunteer Maryland has worked with 688 AmeriCorps members to mobilize 126,323 volunteers. This has contributed nearly 1.7 million hours of service to Maryland communities.
