Heads up, Crown Point: There will be a county-wide outdoor warning siren test at noon CST tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 5.

This is a monthly safety test to ensure our warning system is ready to alert residents in the event of severe weather or other emergencies.

As a friendly reminder, you should have multiple ways to stay . Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors of dangerous weather and the need to seek shelter and get more information. They are not intended to be heard indoors.

You do not need to take any action during the test. It is a good time to review your familyโ€™s emergency plan and make sure youโ€™re signed up for emergency alerts from the City. You can register at crownpoint.info/alerts

On National Dog Day, we need a big round of applaws for our canine team: K-9s Parker and Sophie.๐Ÿพ

Sophie is an arson detection dog, sniffing out the causes of suspicious blazes in Crown Point and across the Region.

Parker is in training to become a live find disaster search dog. He will (eventually) be deployed to natural disasters to help find survivors.

On National Dog Day, we're excited to celebrate one of our very own: Smokey the Bulldog!๐Ÿพ Smokey lives right outside our station and is one of the original bulldogs from the 2005, "Best in Show," public art exhibit.

This summer, we connected with Deb Weiss, the original artist, to give Smokey a spa day. His coat is fresh, nails trimmed and accessories on point. We're so grateful for Deb, who spent days buffing, sculpting and painting our beloved pup. Thank you to the Crown Point Firefighters Association for supporting Smokey's makeover.๐ŸŒŸ

The storm left some of our neighbors with real needs, and left others in a position to help.

From now until September 1st, there will be a food pantry collection box in the front lobby of the Fire Department. Everything donated goes to the ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ง๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ and ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ Trustees' Offices, two local pantries that have been supporting our community through all of this. Both are running low.

This past week asked a lot of Crown Point. It got an answer from every corner of this city.

When the storm came through on the 11th, our firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs weren't working alone. Crown Point Public Works, the Crown Point Police Department, the Crown Point Emergency Management Agency, and PACE Department were right there beside us, clearing roads, mitigating hazards, tracking down utility and infrastructure problems, setting up cooling centers, and answering whatever our neighbors needed. Side by side, all of it, in weather nobody wanted to be out in.

And it hasn't stopped. Public Works especially has been at it every day since; still clearing roads, still removing debris, still working to get Crown Point back to something that feels normal.

Not everybody who showed up for this city drives a big emergency vehicle with lights on top but that didn't make a difference in what they gave.

We know it's a little unusual for one city department to publicly thank another. But this wasn't a normal week, and we're not going to let it pass without saying it plainly: we're grateful, we're proud to work alongside you, and Crown Point is stronger because of the people in every one of these departments.

Crown Point, weโ€™re stronger together.โค๏ธ Residents are invited to stop by Bulldog Park from 4-6 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 17, for a community relief event.

Enjoy dinner on the City of Crown Point and the Center Township Trustee's Office. Weโ€™re serving hot dogs, chips, apples and dessert. Bulldog Park is open and has power, bring your devices to charge if youโ€™d like.

Community Help Network, Inc. will be passing out household supplies and non-perishable food items.

Crown Point Library, Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana and Ross Township Trustee - Eric Blackmon will have informational community booths. United Way Northwest Indiana will be on site with the portable charging van.

Thank you to our partners at Jewel Osco, Midnight Blue Towing & Recovery, NIPSCO and Strack & Van Til for supporting this event!

Mondays with the Mayor is relocated to Bulldog Park and will begin at 6 p.m. Hear from Mayor Land and other City departments on storm updates.

Please note, the Center Township Trustee Food Pantry will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday at 1450 E. South St.

To all of the line workers, utility repair crews, and emergency tree and debris removal contractors โ€” thank you.

These hardworking men and women have been out in the elements around the clock, working to make our communities safe and bring power and comfort back to us all. With damage this widespread, it's a long road ahead. But we will get there.
