Lewisboro EMS Incident Report: Structure Fire Response
At approximately 12:40 PM on Thursday, April 16, Lewisboro EMS was dispatched to a
reported structure fire with possible entrapment.
First arriving units confirmed the severity of the incident and promptly communicated the
situation to 60-Control: People were indeed trapped inside the burning structure.
Fire, EMS, and Police were all on scene nearly immediately, and operated with courage,
compassion, and coordination. Despite significant danger, searches were underway. With
lives in the balance, heroic actions were taken.
Rescues were made, and people were removed from the burning house. Members of service were injured, and their fellow responders were there to pull them to safety and render aid.
Medical care was provided immediately, with an LVAC EMT and WEMS Paramedic tending
to the civilian victims and injured members of service. Within moments of the first tones,
an array of resources began making their way to the scene, responding to the initial call and then the upgraded and urgent alarm.
Additional units arrived quickly. Each apparatus was carrying something more valuable than any equipment: an everyday hero who signed up to help their community when called.
Over the course of the next few hours, Lewisboro’s EMS volunteers transported multiple parties to the hospital, deploying all three of our ambulances and a fly car to assist in the operation. Our Medical Director, a licensed emergency physician and EMT, was posted centrally and engaged in direct patient care on scene.
With multiple civilians and members of service injured, and scores of firefighters engaged
in suppression operations, more than a dozen ambulances and crews of paramedics and
EMTs arrived on scene for both transport and to act as rehab units. Eventually, two specialized rehab units arrived to assist and support fire operations.
We are proud to recognize the strong partnership between the many agencies that
responded to this event, and we thank all our friends across the region who came to our assistance when we needed them.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy. We hope for a quick and complete recovery for all those who were injured and we offer our condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives.
