They say all good things must come to an end... But, what's an end without a party and some fun and games to celebrate the work of TWO AMAZING men! πŸŽ‰May you RETIRE in Peace. 🀣 And yes, we had TWO work parties just for fun. One a little early because you do things when you can... and one for the LAST Board Meeting and final send off. πŸŽ‰

The work of partners. The work of conservation and community. You might not know us all personally, but we're like family around here. Some days we love, some days we fight, but EVERY DAY we work tirelessly to serve the conservation and agriculture community.

Congratulations to Terry W Hudson and Clyde Bailey on your retirement from our Board. πŸŽ‰ Thank you for your MANY years of service. Combined, these men have served Kanawha County for over THREE DECADES. You have each left your mark and leave a legacy of leadership and mentorship for years to come.

More on this later, but in the meantime, if you see them out and about be sure to congratulate them and thank them for their conservation and agriculture service. 🌱

Pollinators are our friends! They are so important. Please be kind and help us take care of them. This is a step in the right direction. 🐝

Fun Farm Fact: Last week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service designated portions of Greenbrier and Pocahontas Co. as "critical habitat" for the endangered rusty patched bumble bee, a native WV pollinator. Pollination health is critical for food security and ecosystem stability.

Spotted Lanternfly has hatched out across many areas of West Virginia. This is the first year that their populations will be very high across Monongalia County. At present, the insects are black with white spots. Soon, they will be red with black and white markings. To reduce the amount of these insect pests around your neighborhood, remove tree-of-heaven and treat freshly cut stumps with herbicide. Insects can also be killed with insecticides. Some examples of insecticides that can be used are Sevin and Talak. Although there is no need to report sightings of spotted lanternfly in the Morgantown area, if you have questions about spotted lanternfly or tree-of-heaven, contact the WVDA at bugbusters.wvda.us
