Congratulations to our very own here in Region 5, Sonya Kosloski, a Crosslake Firefighter & EMT, on three decades of service, growth, and dedication.
Since joining the department in 1997, Sonya stepped in eager to learn, ready to work, and determined to find her place—at a time when she was the only woman on the team.
Through years of change in training, equipment, and understanding of fire behavior, she’s seen the fire service evolve in ways that have made crews safer and stronger.
Her journey hasn’t just been about the job; it’s also been about balance.
As a single mom raising three kids while managing demanding work and staying committed to her community, she’s shown what resilience and dedication truly look like.
Her perspective is simple but powerful: if you’re willing to put in the effort, show up for your team, and hold yourself accountable, there’s a place for you here. The fire service is built on trust, teamwork, and being there when it matters most, and it gives back just as much as you put in.
Thank you, Sonya, for your years of service, your leadership, and for helping pave the way for those ready to take that first step.
Join Sonya this Saturday, May 2nd, at the Crosslake Fire Station, for the Region 5 Women Explore Fire Day in MN event and give the fire service a hands-on try!⬇
