As we age, foot care can become challenging, and many community members are struggling in silence with overgrown toenails, corns, calluses, and dry cracked skin. Left untended, these issues can affect mobility, balance, increase foot pain, and lessen one's quality of life.

Talk to the older adults in your life about how they are managing their foot care, especially those who have backpain, had hip replacement, or other conditions that make bending down hard.

Polk County Public Health offers foot care to community members with a health condition or physical hindrance who are unable to provide adequate foot care for themselves. The clinics are staffed with trained nurses.

The cost of the clinics is $30 per visit; those unable to pay will not be denied services.

That “gross green water” could be deadly for your dog. 🐶⚠️

Blue-green algae can poison pets within minutes — even if they only lick it off their fur after swimming. If you see algae or scum on the water, keep pets out.

Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, trouble breathing, or seizures. In severe cases, exposure can be fatal.

If your pet gets sick after lake or pond exposure, seek veterinary care right away and report suspected harmful algae bloom exposure to MDH at 1-877-366-3455.

Immunizations aren't just for kids—they're essential for adults too! As we age, protection from childhood vaccines can fade, leaving us vulnerable to preventable diseases. Factors like age, occupation, travel, and health conditions can increase our risk.

Don't leave your health to chance. Schedule a yearly wellness visit with your medical provider to ensure you're up-to-date on vaccines. Protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community from serious illnesses. Call today to learn what vaccines you need.

Men’s Health Month 💙

Many men believe that if they feel healthy, they do not need to see a doctor. However, regular checkups and health screenings can help detect diseases early, sometimes before symptoms even begin.

Building healthy habits at a younger age, such as staying active, eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and scheduling routine medical visits, can help lower the risk of developing health problems later in life.

Taking care of your health is an important step toward living a longer, healthier life.
