In April, Minnesotans across the state celebrate the "Month of the Military Child." It is estimated that more than 23,000 children in Minnesota have at least one parent or guardian currently serving on military duty. In recognition of their sacrifice, we take the time to celebrate children of service members and Veterans during this month.

Governor Tim Walz will send children of military members and Veterans a letter of gratitude in honor of their service and sacrifice, registration to receive a letter will be open April 1 - April 30, 2026.

Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin raised an important issue: funding for County Veterans Service Officers.

In response, VA Secretary Doug Collins spoke to the real-world impact of CVSOs and voiced support for full funding in FY 2027.

We couldn’t agree more. CVSOs play a critical role in connecting veterans and their families to the care and benefits they’ve earned, right in their communities.

🚨Short Notice Signup Announcement🚨

🔔PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND PAY ATTENTION TO DATES/TIMES🔔

We have not one, not two, but THREE, signups started for a very last-minute trip. We will be doing three half day salmon/trout fishing trips out of Port Washington, WI starting on Memorial Day.

Trip one: Monday, May 25th. Half-day afternoon trip. 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Trip two: Tuesday, May 26th. Half-day morning trip. 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Trip three: Tuesday, May 26th. Half-day afternoon trip. 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

❗️❗️❗️ Since these are half day trips, we will not be providing any lodging, so please be within realistic driving distance or willing to pay for your own lodging. All fish will be cleaned and bagged for you, so please bring a cooler to transport them. You MUST have a Wisconsin fishing license as well as a Great Lakes Trout stamp. Lastly, since this is last minute, we will not be emailing anyone with informing them whether or not they have been selected. If you are drawn for the trip, you WILL receive a phone call, and if you are not drawn for the trip, you WILL NOT receive any communication from us. ❗️❗️❗️

Applications are open now, and will close tomorrow night, May 19th, at 5 PM. There are only 3 open spaces per trip.

In an NPR piece, Congressman Chris Pappas discusses his bill and efforts to rein in claim sharks. Our work continues.

"It's crazy what these guys are trying to get away with," Pappas told NPR. "To use a robo-dialer to make multiple calls to government lines and then just send veterans a bill whenever their eligibility has changed, it's just outrageous."
