🚒 Croghan Volunteer Fire Department History Series –
As we celebrate 150 years of service (1876–2026), we’re taking a look back at some of the milestones that helped shape our department
During the 1950s and 1960s, the department continued to grow alongside the community. New firefighting equipment and improved training helped members better protect the Village of Croghan and surrounding areas.
By the 1970s and 1980s, firefighting was rapidly changing. Modern apparatus, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and updated protective gear improved firefighter safety and effectiveness. The department continued to expand its capabilities to meet the needs of a growing service area
A major milestone came in 2003 with the completion of our current fire station. Built at a cost of approximately $449,000, the facility provided much-needed space for apparatus, equipment, training, and community events. The station remains the home of the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department today.
Through every decade, one thing has remained unchanged—the dedication of the men and women who volunteer their time to protect our community.
Thank you to all past and present members who have helped carry our department forward through the years.
