Labor Day 2026

This morning the Houston County Lake VFD was paged to a confirmed structure fire in a HoCo Lake subdivision. Latexo and Grapeland VFD's were paged to assist. After arriving on scene and beginning an exterior attack due to fire conditions, the call was later made to alert Crockett Fire Department for mutual aid response. The duty crew of CFD was monitoring radio traffic and was enroute quickly. While enroute with an Engine, we were also requested to bring a Tanker for water supply support. Volunteers were paged for additional manpower and we were able to staff our Tanker shortly after. The CFD duty crew, along with 1 off duty member and 2 volunteers assisted the above departments with fire suppression and water supply support for approximately 5 hours today. Our Engine crew was tasked with protecting the home next door which was in close proximity, while assisting and mitigating the original fire spread as well. Unfortunately the original home was a total loss. Thankfully there were no injuries reported at the time of our department clearing from the scene.

We here at CFD would like to extend a thank you to all of those who work tirelessly, whether volunteer, full time, or part time, who stand at the ready to assist our neighbors across the county, 365 days a year. 🫡

🌀 Tropical Storm Edouard:
‼️ Stay Weather Aware! ☔️⛈️🌬️

As Tropical Storm Edouard approaches Crockett and Houston County, it is still bringing the potential for high winds, heavy rainfall, and localized flash flooding. We would like to advise you to please stay weather aware and keep an eye on updates and alerts!! Be prepared for any changing conditions that may arise!!

⚠️We will do our best to monitor the storm, but please stay alert and take precautions. If or when hazards approach in the city, we will try to make you aware of them as soon as we are aware. This includes flooded streets or any other serious hazard that will need to be avoided. 🚫 As a reminder, avoid flooded streets and never drive through flooded roadways!! 🚗

A few more reminders include:
💨 Secure outdoor items now and be prepared for strong wind gusts.
🔦 Make sure you have essentials on hand in case of power outages, to include flashlights with extra batteries.
📱Charge your phone and other devices and keep them charged incase of power outages.
📻 Have a way to receive emergency alerts.
🐕 If you have outdoor pets, ensure they have proper shelter to keep them safe.
👥 Be a good neighbor and check on anyone who may need extra assistance, both preparing for and during the storm.

This week has been extra busy for HWY 21 E.

Earlier this week the Duty Crew here at CFD responded to assist our neighboring departments with an equipment fire near the Belott Community. Yesterday we returned to the area to answer a mutual aid call for what turned into a little over a 5 1/2 acre wildland fire. Luckily, with assistance from multiple agencies including CFD, Belott VFD, Kennard VFD, the Texas Forest Service, HoCo FM Office, and TDEM, the fire was contained and extinguished before being able to spread into what many departments across the state are dealing with now. This morning around 0715, we were toned, again, to the HWY 21 E area, this time over 20 miles outside of Crockett to the Weches Community in response to a 1 Vehicle MVC with at least 1 occupant entrapped. The crew from CFD arrived and joined in on the extrication of a passenger who's door had impacted a tree. With help from HoCo FM Office, Weches VFD, HoCo Sheriff's Office, TX DPS, and HoCo EMS, the patient was extricated successfully and began to receive emergency medical care while the helicopter was in route to the scene. We would like to thank all of those who have helped in any way this week, and those who have called for our assistance. That's what we're here for.

There have been too many hard days for the wildland fire community this season.

This week, three more lives were lost in the course of wildland fire operations. Two pilots were killed while responding to the Widemouth 2 Fire in Utah, and a dozer operator was killed while working the Wrights Spring Fire in Oregon.

Behind each of these losses is a family grieving, friends trying to process the unthinkable, and a fire community once again mourning one of its own.

We honor the lives, service, and sacrifice of those we have lost, and we hold their loved ones close in our thoughts.

In the days and weeks ahead, we hope their families, friends, and colleagues feel the strength of a community standing beside them. These losses deserve to be remembered, their sacrifices deserve to be honored, and those left carrying their absence deserve our continued support.

We remember them. We honor them. And we stand with those who loved them.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT – POWER POLE DAMAGE
🚨

Residents are advised that a power pole has been broken/damaged along the North Loop in the Crockett area. The incident has resulted in a power outage affecting approximately 117 customers, according to Oncor.

🔌 Oncor is currently investigating the outage. The current estimated restoration time is 4:30 PM today, but this may change as crews assess the damage.

This morning the on duty crew here at Crockett Fire received a visit from a future firefighter. Jamie and Betty Smith, local residents, brought their 3 (and 1/2) year old grandson by as he was visiting them from Buda, TX! Nico, sure likes firetrucks! What a cool name too?! We're hoping he doesn't "grow out of" his love for fire engines. Those of us here, never have. Thanks Nico for coming by to see us this morning. Thank you Jamie and Betty for allowing us the opportunity to give him a station tour as well! We couldn't put him to work just yet, but we do have volunteer positions open if YOU'RE interested. 😎

Instead, join us for a safe, family-friendly fireworks show presented by licensed and insured professionals. Police, Fire, and EMS personnel will be onsite to help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening.
