After multiple years of dedicated service to the citizens of Crittenden and Grant County, Chief A. Lee Burton will officially retire from Crittenden Fire Rescue effective July 1 at 12:00 A.M.

Chief Burton has devoted countless hours to serving our community, leading our department, and helping shape the future of our organization. His commitment, leadership, and dedication to the fire service have left a lasting impact on both our department and the citizens we proudly serve. We would like to sincerely thank Chief Burton for his years of service and wish him nothing but the very best in his retirement from Crittenden Fire Rescue.

With that being said, please join us in congratulating Alexander (Alex) Cole on his promotion to Chief 21, effective July 1 at 12:00 A.M.

Chief Cole has demonstrated exceptional dedication, and leadership throughout his time with Crittenden Fire Rescue. His passion for serving the community, commitment to the department, and strong work ethic make him well suited for this new role. We are confident that under his leadership, our department will continue to grow and uphold the high standards of service our community has come to expect.

Public message from Chief Alex Cole (pictured on the left):

I began my fire service career in Crittenden in 2013. Since then, I have dedicated myself to serving our community and have been fortunate to learn and grow through every opportunity along the way. Working through the ranks of Crittenden Fire Rescue has been an honor, and I am humbled to have been asked by the Board of Directors to serve as Fire Chief.

As I have throughout my career, I will do whatever is needed for Crittenden Fire Rescue and our community. Together, our team will continue moving forward and provide the highest level of service to the citizens we proudly serve.

Please join us in congratulating S. Henry on his promotion to Assistant Chief (Chief 22, pictured on the left) and D. Ely on his promotion to Assistant Chief (Chief 23, pictured on the right).

Both of these members bring multiple years of combined volunteer and career fire/EMS service experience to their new leadership roles, along with a strong dedication to our department, members, and community.

Assistant Chief Henry will oversee all EMS operations, including training, daily operations, emergency response, quality assurance, and other EMS-related responsibilities. Assistant Chief Ely will oversee all fire operations, including training, operations, emergency response, and other fire service responsibilities.

By implementing two Assistant Chief positions, our department will be able to better divide responsibilities and dedicate more time and attention to each area of service. This structure will help prevent leadership overload while allowing for improved support to our members and enhanced service to the citizens we proudly serve.

Both Assistant Chiefs will work alongside the Chief to continue strengthening our department and ensuring we provide the highest level of fire and EMS service possible to our community.

Congratulations to both of these individuals on their well-earned promotions, and thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to our department and community.

Your Crittenden Firefighters are excited to announce the addition of a new-to-us engine to our fleet: a 2008 Freightliner M2 equipped with a 2011 Summit 1250 GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank. This apparatus will allow us to continue providing dependable emergency response to our community with improved reliability and updated systems that help ensure the truck is ready when our citizens need us most. A newer apparatus helps reduce downtime for repairs and maintenance, allowing crews to remain available for emergencies throughout our district. The truckโ€™s more modern design and equipment layout will also help improve efficiency on emergency scenes, allowing quicker deployment of equipment and faster operations during fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and other incidents.

While our 1998 Freightliner FL106 Engine 22 has faithfully served our community for many years through countless calls and training events, the time has come to retire and offer it for sale as we continue working to provide reliable emergency services for the citizens we proudly serve.

We would also like to extend a sincere and respectful thank you to the Hebron Fire Protection District for allowing us the opportunity to purchase this apparatus. We greatly appreciate their professionalism throughout the process and their commitment to helping fellow fire departments continue providing quality service to their communities.

The members have been working diligently to practice their pumping skills and to familiarize themselves with the new apparatus. The following pictures are of the new apparatus.

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend โ€” it is a day of honor, remembrance, and gratitude for those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

As we spend time with family and friends, let us never forget the heroes who are no longer with us and the families who continue to carry their memory forward.

From all of us at Crittenden Fire Rescue, we thank and remember our fallen service members. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿฆ…

โš ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ FLASH FLOOD WARNING & SAFETY REMINDER ๐ŸŒง๏ธโš ๏ธ

We would like to remind everyone to stay vigilant as heavy rain and potential flash flooding are expected with the recent and future rain. Flash floods can happen quickly and with very little warning, turning normally safe roads and low-lying areas into dangerous situations within minutes.

๐Ÿšง NEVER drive through flooded roadways.
Just a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away, and it is often impossible to tell how deep the water truly is or if the roadway underneath has been damaged.

โš ๏ธ Flood dangers include:
โ€ข Vehicles becoming stranded or swept away
โ€ข Hidden washouts and damaged roads
โ€ข Fast-moving debris in the water
โ€ข Entrapment in low-lying areas, creeks, and ditches
โ€ข Rapidly rising water around homes and businesses

๐Ÿ’ก Safety Tips:
โ€ข Turn Around, Donโ€™t Drown
โ€ข Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain
โ€ข Keep an eye on weather alerts and warnings
โ€ข Never allow children to play near flood water or drainage areas
โ€ข Have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications overnight

If you encounter flooded roads, barricades, or storm damage, please avoid the area and allow emergency crews room to work safely.

Stay alert, stay prepared, and stay safe. ๐Ÿš’

โš ๏ธ HIGH WATER DANGERS โš ๏ธ

๐Ÿšง Obey road closures
๐ŸŒŠ Turn Around, Donโ€™t Drown
๐Ÿš— Never drive through high water

Stay alert and stay safe, Grant County.

Thoughts for Thursday:

Most people see the emergency response โ€” the lights, sirens, fire trucks, ambulances, and firefighters showing up during someoneโ€™s worst day. What many donโ€™t see are the countless hours of training that happen behind the scenes long before the call ever comes in.

Firefighters and EMS providers spend hundreds of hours each year training to prepare for emergencies we hope never happen. From hose deployment, search and rescue, MAYDAY training, vehicle extrication, EMS scenarios, and pump operations to learning new medical treatments and practicing low-visibility drills โ€” training never truly stops.

These skills are not built overnight. Repetition, teamwork, and realistic training help responders stay calm and effective when seconds matter most. The work done on the training ground directly impacts how safely and efficiently crews perform on emergency scenes.

Training also helps prepare responders for the unexpected. No two calls are exactly alike, and emergency personnel must be ready to adapt quickly while protecting both the public and each other.

While the public often sees the final response, it is the unseen hours of preparation, sweat, dedication, and commitment behind the scenes that make that response possible.

We are proud of the hard work our firefighters and EMS providers put in every day to serve this community, and we thank them for their continued dedication to staying ready when the call comes.โ€ ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘
