Crisfield Police Department

The Crisfield Police Department is investigating the theft of lumber and plywood from Chesapeake Avenue. The theft occurred in the early morning hours of September 1, 2026. Approximately $4,000 worth of building supplies were taken. We believe a 2000-2010 domestic truck, possibly a white or silver Chevrolet Silverado with a toolbox in the back, was involved. Today marks the end of an era for our police family. Our Chief Administrative Clerk, Bernice Evans, has worked her last day at the Crisfield Police Department.

Originally from Smith Island, she has called Crisfield her home since 1989. She attended Goldey-Beacom College, where she was awarded a degree in Business Administration & Management. She began her employment here in 1993 after working as an HR Specialist at McCready Hospital for four years. Spanning thirty-three years, she has worked with and supported twelve Police Chiefs, over a hundred Crisfield Police Officers, and many Dispatchers. She was critical to several awarded grants, as well as managing daily office operations and organizing vital records, to name a few.

She has been a staple of this police department and the city for over three decades, a mother of two, a grandmother to seven, and a great-grandmother to one. And a genuinely great person. We are going to miss her.

Reminder that our National Night Out event will be next Tuesday, August 4, from 5-7 p.m. at Somers Cove Marina. We will have food, school supplies, community resource presentations, public safety displays, and activities for the children.

We are still a go for tomorrow night, rain or shine. Somer's Cove Marina from 5 to 7 p.m. We will have school supplies, face painting, a bounce house for the kids, and food for everyone. There will be community resource presentations from a variety of departments and programs from across the county. Meet your officers, meet your community members, and come out and have a good time with us.
