Thank you to everyone who stopped by Andy's Frozen Custard last Thursday for Custard with a Cop!

We are grateful to have met so many community members alongside officers from the Sunset Hills Police Department and spend time together outside of the usual calls for service.

Events like this are a great opportunity to get to know the officers who serve our communities and build connections with our neighbors.

Welcome back to another edition of "Things That Happened While You Were Sleeping (or Shopping)!" Here’s a peek at what has kept your local officers busy this past week:

The Case of the Mysterious Bumper Crunch 🚗💥🛒 09-06-26 | 10000 Block of Big Bend Rd | A local shopper popped into a store, did some retail therapy, and came out to find a brand-new, completely unrequested dent in her front bumper. Unless a runaway shopping cart was to blame, another vehicle struck her car and left the scene without stopping. We are currently reviewing parking lot surveillance footage to track down our mystery driver. 🕵️‍♂️📹 (Friendly reminder: if you bump into a parked car, leave a note! It’s the polite—and legal—thing to do.)

11 Garage Doors left open overnight... ELEVEN?! 🚪🤦‍♂️ During our overnight patrols, officers found 11 garage doors wide open to the night air. Folks, we love your trusting spirit, but leaving your garage door wide open overnight is basically putting out a welcome mat for raccoons, neighborhood critters, and opportunistic thieves. 🦝🚲
Before you hit the pillow tonight, do us a quick favor: Check the garage door! Make it part of your bedtime routine right after brushing your teeth. 🪥

Weekly Recap: August 30 – September 5, 2026 🚓💨

Happy new week, everyone! 👋 Here is a look at what kept your officers busy over the last week. Spoiler alert: it involves missing metal, a very ambitious meat thief, and the usual neighborhood rounds.

The Notable Incidents 📝

🚗 August 31 – Missing Metal (9800 Block of Watson Rd): A resident called to report that one of their vehicle’s license plates had vanished into thin air. 🔍 We’ve officially entered the plate into the system as stolen. If you notice your car looking a little "unbalanced" in the driveway, give it a quick once-over before hitting the road!

🥩 September 3 – The Carnivore Caper (10200 Block of Big Bend Rd): Loss prevention at a local business reached out to our Business Resource Officer regarding a suspect who snuck off with a large quantity of meat on two separate occasions this past month. 🛒 Our officer jumped on the case, did some prime detective work, and positively identified the suspect. You might say the steaks were high, but our investigation was well done. 😎🏆

💳 September 4 – Unwanted Mail (9600 Block of Yorkshire Estates Dr): A resident reached out after receiving debit cards and checkbooks in the mail for two financial accounts they definitely didn't open. 📬 An unknown person used their identity to set them up. This case has been handed over to our Detective Bureau for further investigation. Reminder: keep a close eye on your credit reports and shred those pre-approved mailers! ✂️📑

• August 27 (10000 Block of Watson Rd) – Cyber Shenanigans: A local business owner reported that hackers gained unauthorized access to a company computer and transferred a large sum of money out of their bank accounts. Friendly reminder: update those passwords, turn on two-factor authentication, and never click on suspicious links. 💻💸

• August 28 (9900 Block of Watson Rd) – Missing Funds: Another local business owner reported a significant sum intended for payroll and taxes went missing. Detectives are currently working to untangle where the paper trail leads. 🕵️‍♂️💵

Weekly Recap: August 16 – August 22, 2026 🚓📋

Here is a look at what our officers were up to this past week. From ambitious shoppers to delivery drivers who forgot how parking works, it was a busy seven days.

Notable Incidents:

• 08/18 – Yorkshire Estates at Richter Ln | The Classic Double Whammy An officer pulled over a vehicle for improper registration. A quick check revealed the driver was also operating with a revoked license. Result: one ride to the station and a tow truck call. If your registration is expired, driving without a license isn't the best backup plan.

• 08/18 – 9700 Block of Watson Rd | Cart Dashers Two men rolled through a local business, loaded over $800 in merchandise into a cart, and tried the bold strategy of skipping the register entirely before speeding off in an unlicensed vehicle. Pro tip: our Business Resource Officer has great eyes and has already positively identified both subjects. We'll be catching up soon. 🛒👀

• 08/19 – 9600 Block of Watson Rd | Watch Your Purses A shopper had her wallet swiped directly from her purse, with the suspect immediately heading to a nearby mall on an unauthorized shopping spree. Please keep purses zipped and belongings close while out and about!

• 08/21 – 8600 Block of Grantwood Trails Ct | Special Delivery (With a Side of Hit & Run) A delivery driver dropped off a package, backed into the homeowner’s parked car, and decided to speed off. Unfortunately for them, the victim caught their license plate. The package arrived, but so will our investigation.
