Last week members from Crestview Fire Department and North Okaloosa Fire District completed their Vehicle and Machine Rescue Operations class. This is a 40 hour training class that teaches students vehicle extrication and stabilization techniques. This class is part of the CFD's growing special operations capabilities. Great job to all who participated and endured the hot days to get it done!

Due to a serious multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 62, all East bound interstate traffic is being rerouted to State Highway 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) and North to U.S. Highway 90 (James Lee Blvd) to continue East.

There will be a major influx of vehicle and semi traffic during this temporary closure for the detour. Major delays should be expected during the interstate closure.

If possible, avoid this area and use alternative routes.

Crestview ➡️ Belgium

Over the week, Crestview Firefighters traveled to France to participate in the FireFit Europe Firefit Belgium Competition Games

The competition consists of: A 4-story stair climb with a hose pack, large hose hoist, kaiser sled, charged hose pull, and victim drag

Crestview joined with 2 teams consisting of 4 people, as well as, a 2-person tandem team, and 1 solo

It was an amazing showing from teams from all over Europe who were impressive competitors. Crestview being the only American representation at the event made it even more special!

Solo Competitor Carl Day placed 12th of 42 competitors with a time of 1:58

Tandem Team: 15th of 34 teams (1:59 time)

Team ‘Boyz in the View’ - made it to the Quarterfinals and were eliminated but ended with their fastest time of 1:39

High-Angle Rope Rescue

Crestview’s Special Operations Team were deployed again - this time for a Mutual-Aid Request to Dorcas Fire District on 4/13/2026 on Jericho Road.

Reports came in for an on-site worker who fell into an approximately 15-20 foot construction trench and was unable to be removed without special resources due to the extent of injuries sustained.

Crestview’s Truck 3, Battalion 1, Chief 1, arrived on scene and began setting up a High-Angle Rope System.
Due to limited access, an on-site crane was used as a high-point to secure patient into a rescue bridle and lifted up and out to an awaiting Medical Helicopter for transport to a trauma center.

A joint-effort of multiple agencies was instrumental in the overall success of the operation that resulted in the extrication being completed within 45 minutes of resources arriving on scene.

Agencies included:
Dorcas Fire District North Okaloosa Fire District Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida Okaloosa MedFlight Okaloosa County EMS, and on-site personnel
