Update to the Community — 6/8/2026
Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of June 8, 2026.
These last few days are always a busy time of year as classrooms begin wrapping up and students prepare for transitions, and we all come together to celebrate the hard work and growth that have taken place throughout the year.
Dates to Remember
There are three days remaining before summer break, but remember that every day this week is a minimum-day with Thursday, June 11, being the last day of school.
End-of-Year Ceremonies and Events
As I said, these last few days are busy! This week, we are excited to celebrate students across the district through upcoming promotions and graduations.
High School graduation ceremonies kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9, with Sunset High School at 6:00 PM at Sunset High; Castle Rock on Thursday, June 11, at 6:00 PM at the Fairgrounds; and ending with Del Norte High School on Friday, June 12, at 6:00 PM at Whalen Field.
8th grade promotion ceremonies also begin on Tuesday, June 9, with Smith River Elementary at 6:00 PM; Mountain Elementary on Wednesday, June 10, at 5:00 PM; Redwood Elementary on Wednesday, June 10, at 6:00 PM; Crescent Elk Middle School on Thursday, June 11, with students with last names beginning with A through J at 5:00 PM and K through Z at 6:00 PM; and Castle Rock on Thursday, June 11, at 4:00 PM at the Fairgrounds.

Seamless Summer
Del Norte Unified School District Nutrition Services will offer free breakfast and lunch meals for children and youth ages 18 and under through the Seamless Summer Food Program, beginning next Monday, June 15 through August 12, 2026. Meals will be distributed on Mondays and Wednesdays only from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at various community locations throughout Crescent City, Smith River, and Gasquet. On Mondays, families will receive meals for Monday and Tuesday; on Wednesdays, families will receive meals for Wednesday through Saturday.
Children must be present to receive meals. Klamath families may opt in to home delivery as part of our pilot model for home delivery for our most remote families. For more information, you can call (707) 464-0246 or visit delnortenutrition.org.
This will be the last Monday update for this school year, and I look forward to starting our next round of Monday updates on August 10.
Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for their support of our students throughout this year and to wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer.
