Please read!! Mineral County electric service is provided by SLV REC. This is their response to what Excell is planning. Excell services most of the valley. If you have family in the valley you may want to ensure that they are aware of Excell’s plan for the upcoming wind event Wednesday (4/22).
We will update as any new information is presented.

Wildfire Risk Alert - Condition Red Flag Warning for the San Luis Valley

Our local energy neighbor, Xcel Energy, has public noticed a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) this Wednesday, April 22, starting between 9 and 11 a.m., in response to wildfire risk (More info: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DPafEzive/ ). You may be wondering if this affects SLVREC/Ciello electric or Internet, so we’re providing the following FAQs to help answer your questions.

Is SLVREC issuing a PSPS too?
Not currently. SLVREC is actively following multiple conditions according to our Wildfire Mitigation Plan and are prepared to take action if necessary (see below decision tree).

Will Xcel’s planned PSPS affect SLVREC members?
Not Currently. Xcel does not plan to interrupt transmission services to SLVREC substations. Members should experience no interruption of service.

Will Xcel’s planned PSPS affect Ciello customers?
Not Currently. Xcel plans to interrupt service to multiple Ciello communication sites during the PSPS, however we have implemented backup sources to prevent interruption. Customers should experience no interruption of service.

“Wildfire risk is real in the San Luis Valley, and SLVREC/Ciello is taking action. We are actively following our Wildfire Mitigation Plan, strengthening our system, and working closely with emergency partners to protect our members and communities.” – Eric Eriksen, SLVREC CEO
