Our Story
Wakulla County Fire Rescue is a combination Fire and EMS service located in Wakulla County, Florida. Wakulla County is a bedroom community to Tallahassee, Florida and is located approximately 25 miles south of Tallahassee's city center, located on Florida's Gulf Coast. WCFR provides fire and EMS services to Wakulla County through both full-time and flex firefighters and EMTs, as well as 10 volunteer fire stations.
Wakulla County Fire Explorers Post 12 was organized in 2007 as a means to provide an opportunity to provide for Wakulla County's youth to become interested in careers in the fire and EMS services, and as a pipeline for youth grow in to our career in volunteer ranks as they become adults. In 2014, the post reorganized as a Fire/Rescue Cadet post under the Florida Fire Chief's Association Fire/Rescue Cadet Program, while still maintaining it's affiliation with the Learning for Life Explorer Program.
WCFR Cadets is an exciting program for youth ages 14 - 21, who are interested or just exploring a career in firefighting or EMS. New members must be ages 14 (in high school) - 18, be in good health, maintain good grades, agree to comply with the Fire Cadet manual, and be ready for excitement. Each month cadets will learn new skills related to the fire and EMS services, and have opportunities to complete training and certification towards their Firefighter I certification and First Responder certification when they reach age 18. In addition, cadets attend skills competitions with other cadets and explorers posts, and may attend team building events. Funding available, all expenses are paid through funds raised by the program, making this a low cost activity for youth. Community service opportunities are available for youth needing to complete hours for school programs.
