Montgomery County Courthouse Clock Tower Committee

Montgomery County Courthouse Clock Tower Committee A non-profit organization (With the Montgomery County Historical Society) working to fund the reconstruction of the Montgomery Co. Courthouse clock tower.

In 1996, the original Clock Tower Committee was formed by Dr. James Marion Kirtley, where he founded the "Clock Tower Restoration Project" in hopes of raising enough funds to restore the Montgomery County Courthouse clock tower to its original state. Today, the clock tower is still absent from the crown of the courthouse, and there are multiple individuals working to ensure that Dr. Kirtley's drea

m becomes a reality. To date, the committee has raised over $140,000.00 in an effort to secure the needed funds for the clock tower's restoration. While great strides have been made, this is merely half the construction cost of the restoration project. Currently, the committee is still in need of $130,000.00 to finalize the clock tower's construction by Campbellsville Industries in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The final goal is still in reach and hope is still high, however, the committee has set a final deadline to see the clock tower's completion. The committee has set a deadline of May 30th, 2017 as the date of completion for fundraising efforts. In an effort to celebrate 200 years of Indiana history, Montgomery County and the city of Crawfordsville, the clock tower restoration is seen as the marquee event and momentous occasion for the celebration of Indiana's Bicentennial here in Montgomery County.

Nearly 18 years after the elder Kirtley’s death, Kirtley Tower will be dedicated in his honor Sunday at a courthouse ceremony.

On a sunny late-spring morning, Ray Kirtley steps outside his downtown office and turns his head to the sky.
