Be sure your 911 tax is going to the correct county. Many addresses in Oglethorpe County share a city with an adjacent county. Example Colbert, GA. Automated systems often put Madison County for the address when you actually live in Oglethorpe County. The tax then goes to Madison County instead of Oglethorpe County. Be sure your county is correct on your bill.

A line of strong to severe storms is expected to push into NW GA this afternoon into the evening with strong to damaging wind gusts possible. The front will then push further into Georgia through Sunday with multiple rounds of rainfall expected through the weekend.

Greene Co. and Wilkes Co. are under a tornado watch. While Oglethorpe is currently not, our neighbors in the south end of the county should remain vigilant. Have a way to be notified of severe weather alerts while you are sleeping tonight.

Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of southeastern Wilkinson, Warren, northeastern Putnam, northeastern Hancock, Glascock, eastern Greene, Washington, Taliaferro, Wilkes, northwestern Johnson, southeastern Oglethorpe and Jefferson Counties through 945 PM EDT
Special Weather Statement issued June 18 at 9:16PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
At 916 PM EDT, National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a
line of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Phoenix to
near Sparta to near Nicklesville, and moving northeast at 50 mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind and increased chance of a brief tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...While winds should result in minor damage to tree limbs and
blowing around of light, unsecured objects, the leading
edge of this line of storms has also exhibited areas of
localized rotation. A brief tornado could quickly form.

Locations impacted include...
Sandersville, Washington, Greensboro, Louisville, Warrenton, Gibson,
Crawfordville, Wrens, Wadley, Davisboro, Union Point, Tennille,
Tignall, Harrison, Stapleton, Woodville, Bartow, White Plains,
Siloam, and Oconee.
People outdoors should seek shelter immediately.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for central and
east central Georgia.
