Edgewood Community Garden at Cherry Woods The plot is behind Edgewood Highland Elementary School, abutting Cherry Woods. At this time, we are in the planning stages.

The Edgewood Community Garden at Cherry Woods is the beginning of a larger movement transforming under-used land into purposeful spaces for gardening and food production in the City of Cranston. Neighbors in the Edgewood section of Cranston have organized to create and maintain a cooperative community garden for the use and enjoyment of residents, to produce local sustainable organic foods, flower

s, and plants. We welcome input and expertise from friends, neighbors, and anyone interested in local community gardening.

Still searching for meaningful summer work? SCLT is hiring a Seasonal Food Access Associate and we're looking for someone who cares about food justice and wants to be part of the work of getting fresh, locally grown produce to the people in our communities who need it most.

The role touches a lot of what makes our food system work: receiving and packing produce from farmers, delivering food to households and community partners across Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls, supporting farmers with invoicing and record keeping, and creating educational materials for program recipients. It's hands-on, community-rooted work, up to 25 hours a week from July through mid-November, at $20 to $23 an hour.

Well-meaning gardeners often harm native bees during late-winter cleanup. These six common habits destroy the pollinators you want to protect.
Cutting stems too early removes mason and leafcutter bee larvae still developing inside.
Raking bare soil destroys mining bee tunnels and crushes dormant ground-nesters.
Clearing leaf litter exposes bumblebee queens to cold snaps before they're ready.
Tilling beds in early spring kills larvae that haven't emerged from soil chambers.
Removing dead wood eliminates shelter for cavity-nesting bees that wake last.
Spreading mulch everywhere buries ground-nester exit holes and traps emerging bees.
The urge to tidy up is strong. But dormant bees need your patience more than your effort.
