Members of Monarch’s Housing Development Team attended the 2026 Jersey City Summit, joining colleagues across the real estate and development community to connect, share ideas, and highlight our work.

While the summit covered a wide range of topics in development and real estate, housing affordability emerged as a central theme through a dedicated panel discussion and many conversations at our booth with attendees.

Several visitors stopped by seeking guidance on complex affordable housing challenges, including questions about advising nonprofit supportive housing organizations on commercial lease issues and other development-related obstacles. These conversations reinforced that continued collaboration across sectors is essential to building stronger, more resilient communities in Jersey City and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. We enjoyed reconnecting with existing partners and engaging with new organizations about the work we do. We look forward to continuing the conversation.

Big challenges require bold ideas.

Join Monarch Housing Associates CEO Taiisa Kelly at the New Jersey Planning & Redevelopment Conference, as she moderates a panel alongside New Jersey Citizen Action Financial Justice Program Director Beverly Brown Ruggia, ACLU-NJ Political Director John Butler and NJ Assemblywoman Katie Brennan, to discuss what would it mean to frame housing as a fundamental human right in the NJ State Constitution. Grounded in three core pillars, access, stability, and production, with equity at the center, this approach would influence how the state plans, legislates, finances, and delivers housing.

Join planning, policy, and community leaders from across NJ for this important conversation. Register today at https://site.pheedloop.com/event/njprc26/home

This week marked a powerful step forward in the fight to end homelessness as long-time Monarch Housing Associates client Domus Corporation and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark celebrated the groundbreaking of the St. Martin of Tours project.

This 25-unit development will provide permanent housing for veterans and veterans with families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This project creates not just housing, but stability, dignity, and hope for those who have served our country.

Thank you to Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and everyone who joined us in celebrating this meaningful milestone. Together, we continue building stronger communities and brighter futures.

April is National Fair Housing Month, and at Monarch Housing Associates, it’s a reminder of why we do what we do.

At Monarch, we are committed to working with American Legion Posts helping them turn their sites into something just as honorable as their past—affordable, equitable homes for veterans.

Westfield. Hoboken. Emerson. Montclair. South Amboy.

Five communities. One enduring mission.

Because fair housing isn’t just a principle—it’s a promise. And those who served deserve more than gratitude. They deserve a place to call home.

New Jersey is taking a major step toward tackling the housing affordability crisis. Governor Mikie Sherrill has signed an executive order directing state agencies to develop proposals aimed at increasing housing supply and reducing costs.

The order also establishes a Housing Governing Council and requires agencies to submit detailed reports on affordability within 60 days. These efforts are designed to fast-track the development of a comprehensive statewide housing plan, expected to be finalized by September.

Monarch CEO Taiisa Kelly, who served on Sherrill’s transition team and was present at the signing, shared the following statement:

“Home is the foundation from which we thrive.  Having a safe, stable place to call home is critical for every New Jersey resident. With a shortage of over 200,000 homes that are affordable to our neighbors, and rising housing costs, NJ is in the midst of a housing crisis that we must address. We applaud Governor Sherrill’s bold action to open up access to homes for all New Jerseyans by addressing regulatory barriers, expanding access and expediting the state’s ability to create the homes New Jersey so critically needs.  This is an important step in creating a New Jersey that recognizes housing is a human right.”

This past Friday, the Monarch Housing team had the wonderful pleasure of attending the Breaking New Ground: Success Begins with Home conference hosted by the The Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey.

We are incredibly proud to have sponsored this event, where action-oriented, community-driven leaders connected to share insights, resources, and hope for the supportive housing space. It is truly amazing to see how the conference continues to grow with every passing year, adapting its conversations to stay current and up to date with the changing supportive housing landscape.

Congratulations to the Township of Westfield, winner of the 2025 Municipal Award, for their commitment to expanding affordable supportive housing. Monarch is especially grateful to have the Township as a partner on a 22-unit, permanent housing project for at-risk veterans being developed by the Martin Wallberg American Legion Post 3. Additionally, we offer our congratulations to all those who received an award at this conference. Moments like these are inspiring reminders of what’s possible when we all show up and work together.

Thank you to SHA for successfully creating a space where those working within all areas of supportive housing can strengthen our relationships and make change possible. We look forward to next year’s conference!

On Tuesday October 28th, Monarch staff from our housing development and homeless planning teams had the pleasure of attending the NJ Veterans Housing Symposium, hosted by the American Legion at Stockton University! We are honored to have supported this event alongside Foundation for Sustainable Veteran Housing and Community Veterans Engagement Board of Southern NJ. The symposium was a wonderful opportunity to learn, network, and share insights on the challenges facing at-risk and homeless veterans.

Keynote speaker Kathryn Monet, CEO of NATIONAL COALITION FOR HOMELESS VETERANS, led a thoughtful discussion exploring solutions to urgent issues facing homeless veterans in New Jersey and across the country, using Monarch’s Point in Time (PIT) data to highlight the current landscape. Special shoutout to Michael Callahan, Vincent Solomeno and all of the other speakers for their contributions.

Monarch COO Asish Patel led an engaging workshop on financing strategies for development projects, sharing actionable lessons from our experience in the field. Monarch is honored to serve as a consultant on several American Legion development projects creating safe, affordable housing for veterans across New Jersey, including their recent initiatives in Hoboken and Westfield.

Thank you to the American Legion, supporting organizations, speakers, and workshop leaders for creating an amazing event, and for strengthening our shared commitment to providing sustainable housing solutions for the heroes who have served our country.
