🤝 Collaboration across the enterprise is key to mission success! We recently had the pleasure of hosting a team from NUWC Keyport here at NSWC Crane.

This visit was a fantastic opportunity to foster cross-enterprise visibility and strengthen collaborative alignment across our naval warfare centers. By sharing knowledge, breaking down silos, and aligning our technical efforts, we ensure the Fleet remains ready and lethal.

⚓ NSWC Crane is thrilled to partner with Trine University for the 3rd annual Artificial Intelligence Maritime Maneuver (AIMM) Indiana Collegiate Challenge!

Held at Pokagon State Park, top engineering students from across Indiana tackled the challenge of guiding low-profile vessels (LPVs) using artificial intelligence. From custom crossbow payload systems to innovative ballast designs, the ingenuity of these students is a testament to the bright future of naval engineering! 💡🛥️

Today, on the 84th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, we honor the legacy of those who gave everything. At NSWC Crane, history is personal. One of our contracting employees remembers their uncle, Ensign William Robinson Evans Jr., who was Killed In Action on this day in 1942.

An Indianapolis native destined for medical school, Ensign Evans instead enlisted in 1940, joining Torpedo Squadron Eight aboard the USS Hornet. At just 23, he was the youngest in his squadron. During the battle, knowing they lacked the fuel to return, the squadron bravely engaged the Japanese fleet. All planes were lost, with only one survivor.

Declared KIA over a year later, Ensign Evans was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, Gold Star, and Presidential Unit Citation. In his final letter, he wrote: "My luck can’t hold out much longer, but the flame goes on and on—that is important." Today, we ensure that flame continues to burn.

This week, we commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Battle of Midway—a defining naval victory forged through superior intelligence, sacrifice, and unparalleled human courage that fundamentally altered the course of the war in the Pacific.

Honoring Midway is not just about remembering the past; it is about actively applying its lessons today. At NSWC Crane, we embody that historic warfighting ethos by prioritizing absolute combat readiness. By delivering innovative solutions and technical excellence, we ensure our Navy and Joint Forces have the tools they need to dominate the modern battlespace and face a new era of strategic competition.

We remember the heroes of Midway, and we honor them by ensuring today's Warfighters remain the most elite and lethal force in the world.

It's ! In low-light operational environments, even the smallest gear improvements can save critical seconds.

To enhance standard-issue gear, NSWC Crane inventors have developed Tactical Chem Light Caps. These ergonomic, snap-on end caps instantly upgrade standard chemical light sticks—providing a robust, non-slip grip (perfect for gloved hands), a lanyard loop for secure attachment, and an integrated breaching tip.
This low-cost, reusable technology presents an excellent market opportunity for tactical gear, law enforcement, and outdoor safety manufacturers.

NSWC Crane is actively seeking partners to license this practical and effective solution. Learn how you can bring this innovation to market: https://techlinkcenter.org/technologies/tactical-chem-light-caps/cb85d7b5-3845-404d-a9af-39bdbcb11e7d

To dominate the future of warfare, we must defeat the unmanned threat today.

NSWC Crane was honored to host a Distinguished Visit from Mr. Kwame Marshall, Orchestrator (Director) for Counter-Unmanned Systems (C-UXS) within the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Intelligence & Security (OUSD(I&S)).

Our engineering experts are pioneering the C-UXS capabilities required to detect, track, and defeat adversarial drone technology. NSWC Crane’s work in this domain directly supports key Department of War and Navy objectives. By rapidly transitioning these proven technologies from the lab to the field, we are solidifying the future of warfare and guaranteeing our Warfighters remain the most elite and lethal force in the world.

Happy ! 💡

Recently, NSWC Crane’s Technology Transfer (T2) experts, Maria Duran and Amanda McCullough, presented at the Federal Laboratory Consortium National Meeting to share insights with fellow federal lab T2 professionals.

During their session, "The Drone Killer Playbook: A Live Case Study," they provided a deep dive into how intellectual property is assessed and its potential for technology transfer. They outlined NSWC Crane’s strategic plan to partner with industry to commercialize this critical technology and, most importantly, get it into the hands of our Warfighters.

We are always learning and looking for ways to improve our processes, and sharing these lessons learned helps the entire federal research & development community.

Last week, NSWC Crane proudly opened its gates to the next generation during “Bring a Child to Work Day,” offering families a firsthand look at the mission that powers the Fleet.

Across the installation, future engineers, scientists, and innovators stepped into the world of defense technology, engaging with interactive demonstrations and hands-on stations showcasing NSWC Crane’s diverse capabilities. From Trident Missile photo ops and drone simulators to 3D printing in the Laser Lab and K9 demonstrations, young visitors experienced the depth, creativity, and purpose behind the work that supports the Warfighter every day.

A sincere thank you to Crane’s incredible team members for opening their spaces, sharing their expertise, and sparking curiosity in tomorrow’s defense leaders!
