Over the past few year two of the most common question I get are about sidewalks and the pool. This year in budget planning we discussed creating a master plan, which is need for grant funding. That discussion included ideas on how to fix the lack of cross walks on Victory Way, especially Craig’s west end. The fix for thr Walmart crossing is estimated to be over $1 Million to get a crosswalk and landing constructed.

We also reviewed a pool study we commissioned earlier in the year. That study indicated $1.3 million in priority 1 repairs. The study also included details for a new indoor facility. The cost for building a indoor facility was about $12 million for the base model up to $15 million for the expanded, more rec center looking project. Below is the concept drawings.

With regards to the Rainbow People gathering, the City of Craig if aware of the concerns surrounding this event. Collectively, the city and county, have put in place a plan to help take pressure off of local businesses and community spaces. Extra police presence has been scheduled and will continue thoughout the next few weeks.

I encourage everyone to secure your car and homes. If you see something overtly suspicious, please notify law enforcement. Not because these are all bad people but with any influx of large crowds property crimes are inevitably. Most of those heading to the gathering are just passing through town. The next few days you should expect more and more individuals passing through town.
