Yesterday at 1552, Greene County, NY 911 started taking multiple calls for a reported structure fire with explosion. Coxsackie fire along with Athens Vol. Fire Department for standby coverage, Town Of Coxsackie Ambulance Service and Greene County Paramedics were dispatched shortly after the calls came in. Within minutes of the initial dispatch, Greene County Sheriff's Office NY arrived on scene advising of a fully involved fire in a brick structure. Right behind, Coxsackie Cars 2 and 3 arrived and immediately requested Athens be upgraded to respond to the scene. The responding Coxsackie ambulance unit requested Medway-Grapeville Fire Co. with their firefighter rehab trailer to respond to the scene to assist. Upon the arrival of Coxsackie Car 1, Earlton Fire Department was requested to the scene with their F.A.S.T team. Upon the arrival of the first apparatus, 1 hand line was stretched into the building and started fire suppression, closely followed by a second line and crew. At 1612 command notated that the bulk of the fire had been knocked down. Also while initially requested to respond, Cornell Hook & Ladder Fire Company ended up being redirected to standby. Due to the suspicion of this fire being arson, the Greene County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene to work alongside the sheriffs office for investigation. While in operations, a crew was sent to the roof to ventilate the structure as crews were operating inside. While operations were taking place, an additional ambulance was requested to the scene as there was a firefighter who needed to be transported due to sustaining minor injuries on the scene. Also on scene, were members of the Coxsackie Fire Department Auxiliary who provided refreshments to units on scene. At 1830, fire units were clear of the scene. But at 1927, Coxsackie car 1 responded back to the scene with an apparatus due to receiving a call stating the building had heavy smoke inside. As of 1959 all fire units were cleared and remained clear for the night.

Due to the quick work of the sheriffs office while firefighters were in operations, multiple suspects were identified ultimately leading to the arrest of at least one individual for their involvement.

The Coxsackie Fire Department would like to thank everyone that was involved in the operations and quick handle on the situation before it could get out of hand and become worse than it was.

Tomorrow, March 16th, the annual burn ban goes into effect across New York State to help prevent wildfires during the high-risk spring season. Open burning of brush and debris is prohibited from through May 14. These temporary restrictions help protect our communities, first responders, and natural resources by reducing the risk of rapidly spreading brush fires.

On January 19, 2026 at 1959 Coxsackie Fire Department was dispatched to 54 Lafayette Ave along with Coxsackie Ambulance, Greene County Paramedics and Athens Vol. Fire Department to standby with 2-3 for a structure fire. Due to Greene County, NY 911 taking calls reporting flames visible, Car 1 immediately called for Earlton Fire Department for their FAST Team and Cornell Hook & Ladder Fire Company with manpower. ETA 52 called on scene with smoke showing shortly after being dispatched. At 2003, Car 2 arrived and notified dispatch confirming a working structure fire. As Coxsackie Ambulance was unavailable, Greenville Rescue Squad was dispatched in their place While performing the initial attack in the area of the wood stove in the residence, there was a partial structural collapse from the first floor into the basement due to the compromised floor, in which a firefighter suffered minor injuries. The firefighter was evaluated by EMS and returned to the fire scene. Car 1 requested Medway-Grapeville Fire Co. with their firefighter rehabilitation trailer to respond to the scene to assist ems. Central Hudson was requested to the scene to cut the power to the residence as well as the Village of Coxsackie highway department to respond to salt the roadway. At 2028 Car 1 advised that the fire knocked down, and units were overhauling. The Greene County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene. As mutual aid units from New Baltimore, Athens, and Earlton were released, Village of Coxsackie Code Enforcement as well as the American Red Cross were requested to the scene. Once the majority of the work was completed, Medway Grapeville’s rehab unit was released. Continuing the fire ground clean up, the scene was cleared and all units returned to service at 2219.

The Chief’s Office of the Coxsackie Fire Department would like to extend our deepest thanks to all of the departments that assisted us with this incident

On January 19, 2026 at 1847 Greene County, NY 911 became inundated with calls on the NYS Thruway for a serious mva. Multiple calls reporting a multi car accident involving a tractor trailer which started in the northbound lane and crossed over into the southbound lane. Due to the extent of calls, and multiple callers reporting multiple vehicles involved, with multiple patients and a possible vehicle fire, Coxsackie Fire Department along with Coxsackie Ambulance and Greene County Paramedics were dispatched. Medic 7 arrived on scene dvising of 1 patient at that time as well as an active vehicle fire. Car 2 arrived and advised that all southbound lanes were blocked due to the accident. Car 1 arrived and due to the complications of gaining access to the scene, West Athens Lime Street Fire Company was requested to the scene and to approach from the south for better access. Shortly after the request was made for West Athens, Car 1 advised that the fire was extinguished via extinguisher, continuing responding units to check for extension. ETA 52 was held at the interchange for any further incidents that transpired. At 1957 all Fire Department units were cleared to respond to another incident and the scene was turned over to NYS Thruway Authority and the New York State Police.
