Vertical ventilation is an important part of structure fire operations, allowing for heated gasses and smoke to exit the structure, allowing for better interior conditions for working firefighters.

Travel advisory for Wyoming County begins at 10am Sunday

**TRAVEL ADVISORY - NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL**

The Sheriff of Wyoming County has issued a TRAVEL ADVISORY for Wyoming County, effective beginning at 10:00am on Sunday, January 25, 2026, until further notice.

A winter storm is expected to impact Wyoming County and Western New York Sunday through Monday, with 8 to 14 inches of snow possible. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and predicts “very difficult travel and hazardous conditions during this storm event”.

Based on information from the NWS, The Sheriff recommends NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL during this storm. Heavy snow and frigid temperatures will make travel extremely difficult.

During a travel advisory roads are not closed, however no unnecessary travel is advised. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office does not determine the necessity for any individual to report to work.

**TRAVEL ADVISORY- NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL**

Effective January 19, 2026 at 2:50pm, Wyoming County Sheriff David Linder has issued a NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL ADVISORY for all of Wyoming County. The roads are NOT closed, however; the extreme weather combination of snow, wind and cold has created blizzard conditions and travel is extremely hazardous. The visibility is very poor and near zero in prone areas along with slippery and drifting roadways. North/South roads are particularly hazardous. The Wyoming County Sheriff does not determine the necessity of an individual’s obligation to travel. This is an advisory only and remains in effect until further notice.
