PRESS RELEASE: ROBERT COBB, 63 OF 2ND AVE NEOLA, WV

DATE: 5-19-26

On May 18, 2026, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Alleghany County Regional Emergency Response Team and the Covington Police Department, arrested Robert Cobb, 63, of Neola West Virginia but was also known to frequent a residence located in Alleghany County on four counts of § 18.2-374.3 Code of Virginia, Use of Communication Systems to Facilitate Certain Offenses Involving Minors.
Cobb was also served with an outstanding capias for Failure to Appear. Cobb also has outstanding warrants on file for similar offenses in Greenbrier County, WV.
When officers approached Cobb, he attempted to flee the scene on a 1986 Honda Goldwing motorcycle but was quickly stopped and detained by members of the ERT.
During the investigation Cobb conversed with what he thought was a minor female and agreed to meet the minor in Covington, VA.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively investigating crimes involving the exploitation of children and holding offenders accountable. Individuals who target or attempt to exploit minors will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheriff Moore stated “this is just another example of why parents need to be monitoring every move that their children make on social media. We are glad that we were able to arrest this predator”.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the assisting agencies for their professionalism, cooperation, and support during this operation.

Teamwork and great communications results in another drug arrest and avoided dangerous drugs from entering Alleghany County.
On May 14, 2026 Botetourt County Deputies received information from members of the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force that a vehicle carrying an unknown amount of drugs was traveling north on Rt. 220 in Botetourt County and was enroute to Alleghany County.
A traffic stop was conducted by the Botetourt County Deputy and K9 Xena was requested. A positive alert for narcotics was detected and subsequently 109 grams of Methamphetamine and 85 grams of Fentanyl was found on the person of the driver,
Shelby Montgomery, 41 of Clifton Forge was charged with Possession with intent to distribute in Botetourt County.

Sheriff Matt Ward and Sheriff Kyle Moore are proud of the ability of the two task forces to work together and continue to remove these drugs and dealers off the streets of our communities.

The Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office, the City of Covington Division of Police, the Craig County Sheriff's Office, the Bath County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police.

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office in attempting to locate the below missing juvenile. SAMUEL LEE JACKSON-HARDY Jr. / 6'1", 150 lb, light skin with possibly curly brown and blonde hair.

Hardy is suspected of being a run-away believed to be in the Covington area. If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Mr. Hardy, please contact the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office at 540-965-1770 or the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office at 434-392-8101 #2.

This week, the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office and Regional Jail proudly recognizes National Police Week - a time to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement deputies and officers across our nation.

We remember those whom have gave their lives in the line of duty and express our sincere appreciate and gratitude to the deputies, officers, jailors, correctional staff, dispatchers and support personnel who continue to serve and protect our communities each and every day.
