The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington We help residents improve their lives as they improve their community.

Since 1976 The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington has been a vehicle and a support for community residents seeking to improve the quality of their lives and their community. By focusing on building the capacity of residents, supporting and encouraging citizen engagement and promoting partnerships between residents, government, schools and business, the Center has been able to have a significant impact on the positive development of Covington. Our approach makes efficient use of community and organization resources, allowing us to maintain a small, effective and sustainable organization. Our experience has taught us that individuals are most fulfilled when they are connected to their neighbors and have opportunities to share their gifts with others as they work together to improve the community. In helping youth and adult residents realize that sense of fulfillment, the Center for Great Neighborhoods supports their efforts to:


• Build strong neighborhood associations and civic groups.

• Develop effective leadership skills and practice wise stewardship for the community.

• Maximize access to resources that improve the quality of their lives and health, and benefit their personal, economic, educational, civic and social development.

• Create effective partnerships with other stakeholders in the community.

• Improve the physical, economic and social environment in their neighborhoods.

Tickets are officially ON SALE NOW!

For 50 years, The Center for Great Neighborhoods has worked with residents, organizations, and stakeholders in Covington, KY to create positive change and the civic space that allows everyone in the community to work collaboratively on the future they want.

At The Center, we build capacity and train community leaders to be able to accomplish everything from arts and creative placemaking projects to public space improvements. We also develop affordable housing, create programs to improve property conditions, serve Covington youth by creating safe spaces for kids to play and learn, and support healthy lifestyles and small businesses, in part by managing the Covington Farmers Market.

The Center began in 1976 as the Covington Community Center, and served the emergency needs of low-income residents, provided recreation activities for youth, and helped residents address community issues. In the mid­1990s, our programs started to focus more heavily on community development efforts and building a stronger network of resident ­led neighborhood groups. By the 2000s, we began addressing more systemic issues like blight and lack of affordable housing- since that time, The Center has transformed more than 70 vacant and blighted properties into sources of pride and opportunity. These include homes for moderate-income buyers, affordable rental housing, revitalized commercial spaces, and façade improvements that help homeowners invest in their futures. Each project represents more than bricks and mortar— it represents stability, dignity, and hope.

Through our community work, we have become the fiscal agent to more than 15 neighborhood associations and resident-led initiatives such as Ride the Cov and the Covington Street Hockey League. Our newest program which came out of conversations with these groups is Covington Sparks and Sparks in the Park. This program seeks to address the community’s desire for more safe spaces for Covington youth outside of school hours. Partnering with 6th District Elementary School and Covington Parks and Rec, we offer Saturday youth activities including art, sports, and enrichment.

The Center for Great Neighborhoods’ mission calls us to engage residents and work to bring them into the creation of the future version of our community. We know that a truly vibrant and dynamic community happens when it is inclusive and harnesses the contributions of everyone.

On Thursday, October 15th, 2026, we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary at our Annual Celebration. The event takes place at the Madison Event Center and will feature food from our Covington Farmers Market vendors.

Happy Retirement, Kyle!

The City celebrated the retirement of Kyle Snyder, Executive Director of the Covington Motor Vehicle Parking Authority, during Tuesday night's Board of Commissioners meeting.

Kyle has spent the past four years with Covington, capping off an impressive three decades of service in the public sector. During his time with the City, he played a pivotal role in reshaping how parking is managed and experienced in Covington, helping make our community more accessible and welcoming.

⛵ Now, Kyle is looking forward to having more time for his hobbies, including sailing!

Fall is almost here, and Covington Parks & Recreation has two great opportunities for local students to get involved and active!

⚽ Covington Youth Soccer League
Open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade, the league runs Sept. 13–Oct. 18, with games on Sundays. Location and practice days will be announced.

🎮 Covington E-Gaming Club
Open to all sixth- through eighth-grade students, this after-school esports program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30–5 p.m., Sept. 15–Nov. 5 at the Boys & Girls Club, 30 W. 26th St. Students do not have to be Boys & Girls Club members to participate.
