STOPS St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide

STOPS St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide Preventing suicide through education, connection, and compassion. Because hope builds stronger communities, one step at a time. The team is a program of the St.

STOPS offers many programs to the citizens of St. Tammany in an effort to decrease the loss of lives due to suicide. These programs include:

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST): This program provides a full two day intensive training for caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Participants often include people concerned about family or friends, emergency serv

ice workers, counselors, teachers, ministers, mental health practitioners, law enforcement workers and community volunteers. The emphasis is on suicide first-aid. Survivors of Suicide Support Group (SOS): Research has shown that suicide leaves at least 6 survivors. A suicide survivor is defined as anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. This group meets twice a month on the west side of the Parish and once a month on the east side. Local Outreach to the Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) Team: This program provides immediate hands-on assistance to those newly aggrieved by the loss of a loved one to suicide. A survivor is defined as anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. Tammany Coroner's Office. Suicide Community Awareness: STOPS can provide suicide prevention and awareness programs by speaking to churches, groups, organizations, businesses, agencies, etc.

We NEED you to help us get this party started.

STOPS is collecting raffle items for our upcoming Kickoff Party on June 26th at the Covington Block Party on Columbia Street, standing with the Covington Business Association, and we would love for local businesses, restaurants, makers, service providers, and community supporters to be part of it.

Your donated raffle item will help make the event more exciting, bring people together, and support su***de prevention awareness in our community.

Gift cards, baskets, products, services, experiences, and local goodies all make wonderful raffle donations.
All raffle donors will be recognized throughout the event and in social media promotions.

To donate a raffle item, contact Haley Elise Ridgel at [email protected] | 985.264.8370

Help us kick this off with purpose, hope, and community.

We are excited to announce an SOS Reunion on June 22nd from 6:00–7:30 PM at Therapeutic Partners!

📍 60 Louis Prima Drive
Covington, LA 70433

We have some exciting announcements to share, but most importantly, we wanted to create a space to come together, reconnect, share memories, and spend time with the people who understand this journey.

We are excited to kick off, SOS meetings being held at Therapeutic Partners (address above) with our reunion. Meetings will continue on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. We believe this change will better accommodate our group's needs and provide a space that supports our comfort, connection, and continued growth together.

Please bring a favorite photo of your loved one as we honor and remember the people who remain part of our stories.

🍽️ Dinner will be potluck style, with the main course provided by Outback Steakhouse. If you are able, please bring a side dish, appetizer, dessert, or beverage to share.

Please RSVP and let me know what you would like to bring.

Think of this as a family reunion! A night of remembrance, connection, laughter, stories, and support. We can't wait to spend this special evening with all of you. 💙

STOPS was proud to be part of the Covington Block Party as new members of the Covington Business Association.

We had the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people, share information about su***de prevention, talk about the upcoming STOPS 5K Fun Run and Walk, invite the community to get involved, and collect names of future volunteers.

Every conversation matters. Every connection matters. One table, one evening, one step at a time, we are working to plant seeds of hope in our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and spent time with us.

If you or someone you love is struggling, call or text 988. You are not alone.
