Today, the City of Covington was honored to welcome U.S. Olympians Mystique Ro and Dan Barefoot to City Hall!

Mystique, who is visiting family in West Tennessee, began her athletic career as a track-and-field heptathlete at Queens University of Charlotte before transitioning to skeleton. She won individual silver and mixed-team gold at the 2025 World Championships before representing Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Dan, a Penn State graduate and professional landscape architect, discovered skeleton while searching for a new winter activity. After nine years of training and competitionβ€”often balancing the sport with his professional careerβ€”he achieved his dream of representing the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Team USA athletes are working to build awareness of the Winter Olympics and Olympic sports across the nation. Mayor Hensley enjoyed hosting them and learning about their journeys and the remarkable sport of skeleton, in which athletes race headfirst down an ice track at speeds approaching 90 miles per hour.

We appreciate Mystique and Dan taking the time to visit Covington, share their inspiring stories and encourage greater interest in Olympic sports!
