When’s the last time you actually talked to your attorney?

Because signing a client and then checking back in three or six months later has never made much sense to me.

I stay involved.

I talk to my clients regularly. I know how treatment is going. I know when appointments are missed. I know when something changes. And I make sure my clients understand what’s happening with their case without burying them in legal terminology.

That communication isn't just about providing better service.

It helps me build a better case.

You’re riding in an Uber or Lyft when your driver gets into an accident.

So… whose insurance actually pays?

The rideshare company? Your driver’s insurance? The other driver’s insurance?

The answer isn’t always as simple as people think.

Rideshare accident claims can involve multiple insurance policies, and which coverage applies can depend on exactly what was happening when the crash occurred—whether the driver was logged into the app, waiting for a ride request, on the way to pick someone up, or actively transporting a passenger.

And if another driver caused the accident, their insurance may come into play too.

That’s why these cases can get complicated pretty quickly. You may have multiple insurance companies involved, each looking at whose policy should be responsible and how much coverage applies.

“I felt fine after the accident.”

I hear that more than you might think.

You’ve just been hit, your adrenaline is going, you’re standing on the side of the road talking to police, and nothing feels seriously wrong. So when someone asks if you’re hurt, you say what seems true at the time: “I’m fine.”

Then you wake up the next morning and your neck is stiff. A couple of days later, your back starts hurting. The headache that you thought would go away hasn’t. Suddenly, you realize you may not be as “fine” as you thought.

Not every injury shows up immediately after an accident. Some symptoms can develop or become more noticeable in the hours or days that follow.

And this is where what happens early can matter.

If you already told an insurance adjuster that you weren't hurt, accepted a quick settlement, or signed a release before you knew what was actually going on with your body, things can become much more complicated.

So don't feel pressured to diagnose yourself on the side of the road or tell an insurance company you're fine just because you don't feel pain yet.

Pay attention to your body. Get checked out if symptoms develop. And don't rush to close an injury claim before you know what you're dealing with.

“Can we get a recorded statement?”

It sounds harmless enough. You tell them what happened, answer a few questions, and move on.

But before you say yes, ask yourself who is requesting it.

If it’s the other driver’s insurance company, remember who you’re talking to. Their job is to investigate the claim and protect their insured—and you generally are not required to give them a recorded statement.

If it’s your own insurance company, that can be different. Your policy may require you to cooperate with its investigation, which could include providing a statement.

Either way, what you say matters.

Saying “I’m fine” before you know the full extent of your injuries, guessing about details you don't remember, or answering a question you don't fully understand can create problems later.

So if an insurance adjuster asks to record you after an accident, you don't have to figure out the right response on the spot.

Insurance companies don’t offer quick settlements by accident.
It’s a cost-saving move.

Right after a crash, you might get offered $500, $1,000 or even more to sign and close the claim.

But at that point, no one really knows the full extent of your injuries, treatment, or what the case could actually be worth. But the insurance company does.

They know if you sign early, they can close the file for a small amount before they’re potentially on the hook for something MUCH larger.

And once that happens, it’s over.
You can’t go back and reopen it.

Don’t rush into a quick settlement just because it’s offered early (and you might need the cash), call our office and make sure you understand what you’re giving up.

“Best car accident lawyer near me.” 🔍

It’s one of the first things people Google after an accident. And it makes sense... you’re hurt, you’re overwhelmed, and you’re trying to figure out who to call.

But here’s something most people don’t think about:
The law firms you see first on Google aren’t necessarily there because Google decided they’re the “best.”

Law firms spend a lot of money on paid ads, SEO, and other marketing to appear when you search those terms. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good lawyers. It just means showing up first and being the right attorney for your case are two very different things.

Before you hire someone, look a little deeper.

Who will actually handle your case?
Will you have access to your attorney?
Do they communicate?
What do their clients say about them?
Do they have experience with your type of case?
And do you feel like they’re actually listening to you, or are you being handed off as soon as you sign?

And don’t get too hung up on the “near me” part either. Your attorney doesn’t necessarily need to be five minutes from your house. We represent clients across Louisiana, and much of what we do can be handled without you constantly coming into the office.

Just because a law firm shows up first doesn’t mean it’s the right choice.
Do your homework. Ask questions. Talk to the attorney.

Because when it’s your health, your recovery, and your case on the line, who you hire matters.
