Important Updates: Ma*****na and School Board Property

Louisiana law regarding ma*****na in and around schools changed effective August 1, 2026.

Under the new law, ma*****na possession on school property, within 2000 feet of school property, or on a school bus can result in:
Up to 1 year in prison
Up to a $1,000 fine

The law also applies to smoking or va**ng controlled dangerous substances in these locations, including THC v**e pens.
For students in grades 6–12, school discipline is separate from criminal consequences. A first occurrence involving ma*****na may result in a recommendation for expulsion, while a second or subsequent occurrence requires expulsion for at least two complete school semesters.
We encourage all students and families to know the law, understand the consequences and make responsible choices.
Please share this information with your family and help us keep our schools safe.

*The maps included with this post were provided as a courtesy to illustrate approximately 2000 feet from school board property.
