This Saturday March 14, 2026, Courtland Fire Department had the opportunity to speak about emergency preparedness with the local Alpha Kappa Alpha Phi Upsilon Omega Chapter in Town Creek. It’s always great to see others pouring into our youth and mentoring. Opportunities like this are also great for planting the seed for future community first responders. It’s also good to just answer questions about what to do in times of emergency. Also present to speak about weather emergencies was WAAY-TV31 Chief Meteorologist Jeff Castle.

I acknowledge that the immediate closure of the old overhead railroad bridge will cause inconvenience to many. However, this decision was unavoidable due to the critical Life Safety Hazard posed by the deterioration of concrete purlins, piers, and shifting of wingwalls. Following a thorough examination by a renowned bridge inspector, Mayor John McGregor and I concurred that immediate closure was the only viable option. Please be assured that we do not take such decisions lightly and apologize for the resulting inconvenience.

It will be closed due to underground utility work going out to the Courtland Industrial Park. The traffic needing to gain access to West side of town, or Industrial Park can do so by traveling west on Alabama Highway 20 to West Jefferson street. You may also come into Industrial Park, and Airport by taking County Road 585 turning south then turn left on Lockheed Martin Way. Thanks for your understanding.
