It’s been an incredible year for me professionally. A year ago today, I made a huge decision to jump from the Iowa Army National Guard to the United States Army Reserves. This particular move came with major changes in my career. While I’ll always be an Infantryman, I am now an instructor at the Command General Staff College training field grades on leadership and joint strategic operations.

Sometimes, timing is everything. Back in March, I was fortunate to have my dear friend and US Senator, Joni Ernst pin on my silver oak leaves, marking my promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, in the Senate Committee on Armed Services hearing room! To be promoted in such a historic setting, surrounded by my colleagues and my fellow AU partners in crime, was an unforgettable moment.
