This page is to keep our citizens up to date with the hard work and dedication of the members of the Council Bluffs Fire Department. Just over 80% of those calls are medical in nature. The national average is between 8-10%. We fight on average around 70 structure fires a year. Th

e remainder of the annual calls are made up of technical rescues, HazMat, Ice Rescue, Water Rescue, High Angle and Confined Space Rescues. We have a regional hazmat team that responds to eight counties in southwest Iowa and are also one of three WMD Hazmat teams across the state. Our goal is to provide the people we serve with the most professional care possible in all types of emergency responses. We truly appreciate all the support we get from our community.

Each year the Noon Rotary Club celebrates those who make a difference in our department. This year Engineer J. Dankiw received the Firefighter of the Year award from Noon Rotary.

Eng. Dankiw was nominated for this award because of the numerous beatification and historical preservation projects he has organized and completed over several years. He has worked with retired CBFD members, local historical groups, and the Council Bluffs Library to preserve photos and significant events. His latest project memorialized past and present CBFD employees who have or are currently serving in the military.

We are thankful to have someone like Eng. Dankiw on our crew! Join us in congratulating him!
