Old Hickory - F. W. Knox Villa

Old Hickory - F. W. Knox Villa Italianate house built in 1880 as the home of Franklin W. Knox. In its later days it functioned as the Old Hickory Tavern.

The house now under renovation, is located on Main Street in the small town of Coudersport Pennsylvania.

As previously mentioned but not clearly visible, our new roof is being completed in segments. The yet to be replaced portion does retain a perfectly spooky look for Halloween.

Those of you invested in the saga of our resident skeleton, Mr. Bones, will be happy to see that he is on the mend. He’s decided it’s much wiser to admire the new portion of the roof from below.

PSA: don’t let your house skeleton out to admire your new roof, he might get so excited that he falls off the edge.

No need to panic, his bones may be bruised but he is expected to make a full recovery.

We have had our fair share of delays in getting this this off the ground and this isn’t a completed project. However, it was the main focus of this summers work at the house and the improvement that I’m most excited about! I took this photo the night before we got the keys for the house. Bringing back the side porch was already in the plans at this point, but the possibility of it was absent from my mind when I snapped this photo. I was more focused on the overall scale of the house, the peeling paint and the resident pigeons. I need to confirm for certain, but looking back I think it’s possible that the person in the photo was envisioning the porch, and already knew just how incredible it would be.

Now this feels like a transformation! There are definitely times in life when I walk around looking at everything too critically. These photos are the perfect reminder to take the time to step back and look at the big picture. I find these photos so striking in their contrast and they make me so grateful for everything that has been accomplished so far. There will always be those little things you can criticize, instead I’m going to take this moment to bask in the beauty of the process.
