Sunday of Service | Beyond the Badge 💙
Service doesn’t always happen in response to a call. Sometimes, it’s simply recognizing a need & taking a moment to help.
Meet Master Sergeant Velez, a member of the LaSalle County team since 2015. After years of training & mentoring deputies, he now oversees Patrol Operations while continuing to emphasize one simple principle: “Above all, we are public servants!”
Recently, while on patrol, Sgt. Velez noticed two young men working in the extreme summer heat. He stopped to offer them some cold water & a moment to cool down. ☀️
There was no call for service. No investigation. No expectation of recognition. Just a deputy seeing members of his community, recognizing a need, & taking a moment to serve. 👏🏻
The photograph was captured naturally by one of Sgt. Velez’s fellow coworkers in the field. It was not staged or arranged for social media. We’re sharing it because moments like this reflect the everyday work our deputies do, often quietly & without recognition. 📸
