Anecdotes abound of hostile attitudes displayed by officers, harassment, inappropriate responses to events, etc. We have identified many instances when members of the Cottonwood Heights police force have behaved unprofessionally. In some cases this behavior has been abusive.
1) We want to know if these are isolated incidents committed by only certain police officers, or if they represent the institutional climate in the Cottonwood Heights Police Department.
2) We want a system where citizens who have been victims of needlessly abusive treatment by police officers can seek reparations for the abuse. This system must be transparent to Cottonwood Heights citizens.
3) We want officers who show a pattern of abusive behaviour to be subject to a scale of disciplinary action, up to and including termination in extreme cases. We know that not all members of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department are unprofessional or abusive. We believe that many or most are hard-working public servants, and we wish to thank them for their service.
