SMOKE TEST NOTIFICATION

TO THE RESIDENTS OF: COTTAGEVILLE PUBLIC SERVICE DISTRICT
The Cottageville Public Service District will be doing a sanitary sewer test. The testing will be done on October 16, 2025. SMOKE WILL BE USED TO IDENTIFY ANY BROKEN PIPES, ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS AND OTHER PROBLEM AREAS. The smoke will be introduced through the manholes with a very low pressure air blower. The smoke will work its way up through the street pavement, catch basins and lateral lines from your homes to the main sewer connection. The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps. If you have any seldom used drains, please pour water in them in order to fill the traps. This should prevent smoke from entering the building. If this should occur, please ventilate until the smoke dissipates and contact one of the workers at the Cottageville PSD office. The smoke agent we use is widely accepted for use in sewer systems and it is not harmful or toxic to you. We do recommend that people with respiratory problems not be in their home during the time we well be working. The test last for approx. 1 hour. Some sewer lines and manholes may be located in backyards easements. Where these lines require testing, members of the inspection team will need access to the sewer lines and manholes. Homeowners do not need to be at home and the workers do not need to enter your home. Photographs will be made of leaks occurring in the system and field notes will be taken. The information obtained from this study will be used to improve your sewer services.
