SLSD elementary students had an incredible day exploring hands-on learning with amazing community partners! From checking out patrol cars and fitness challenges with CGPD, to trying virtual welding with Lane Community College students, the day was packed with discovery.
Students got creative building claw machines with Connected Lane County, decorating cookies with Random Acts of Cookies, and designing spaghetti-and-marshmallow towers alongside University of Oregon bioengineering students. They also explored science up close with stained biological samples and embryonic development activities led by UO PhD biology students.
The fun didn’t stop there—students learned about oral health through interactive demonstrations, planted seeds for local habitat restoration with Walama Restoration Project, explored costume design in theatre and film, and toured CGHS Career Technical Education programs with student ambassadors.
Experiences like these help connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities—and spark ideas for the future along the way.
